Ed Sheeran has not only delivered some of the century’s biggest Pop hits but he’s also performed them in some of the biggest arenas and stadiums around the world.
But even with titan chart-toppers like ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and ‘Shape of You’ in his arsenal, the GRAMMY winner isn’t so sure he’s the best pick for the biggest spectacle on Earth: the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Recently sitting down with Andy Cohen‘s SiriusXM radio show, Sheeran touched on a number of hot topics including his hotly selling ‘Mathematics Tour,’ re-recording music with Taylor Swift, and so much more.
As eyes are shifting toward news of who will headline the next Super Bowl halftime show (a report that usually drops in September or October of the preceding year), Ed made it clear he does not think he’s the man for the job.
“There was a conversation a while ago — I think it was when Coldplay did it — of me going up to play ‘Thinking Out Loud.’ I think that would be the only way I’d do it, is if I was joining someone else,” he shared.
When quizzed about his lack of confidence, the British hitmaker shared he does not believe he has the “pizzazz” to do the gig justice.
“You watch Prince, you watch Michael Jackson, you watch Katy Perry, you watch Lady Gaga, you watch Rihanna, you watch Beyoncé — you watch all these amazing performers. I’m just not that,” he replied. “I’m not going to have dancers on stage, I’m not going to have fireworks on stage like The Weeknd. That’s not me. I don’t think anyone wants to see me do the Super Bowl.”

Pink was my first choice, but my interest isn’t the same since she reignited the drama with Christina. I would say Chris, but I don’t think the industry would be on board with supporting him commercially – last year’s AMAs cancellation showed that. Next Super Bowl will probably be a country artist.
My first choice would be Pink but she turned it down a few years ago, not sure she’d change her mind.
Usher would be my second pick.
Chris Brown could handle it for sure, but I’m not sure he would ever get the offer.
Christina could be ok as well, but she hasn’t been relevant commercially speaking in a very long time…
Mariah has a great catalogue, but she moves around so awkwardly on stage…
They like bands too, at some point Imagine Dragons will get booked, these guys record hit after hit.

He is cool guy and he is right I don’t think he is the right choice for that. Super Bowl is a kind of party I can’t see his music bring this kind of hype.

If Taylor or Bieber gets a chance to headline it, then Ed might at least have a shot at being featured.
