Beyond delivering stage-blazing performances from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Shakira, Demi Lovato, Anitta, Karol G, Olivia Rodrigo, and many others (as we reported here), the 2023 MTV VMAs packed just enough punch and star power to help continue the reversal of ailing ratings.
As previously reported, the 2022 VMAs were among a very short list of award shows that saw a ratings increase.
The northward turn of viewership is a trend that continued in 2023 as Minaj returned to host and perform at the September 13-aired festivities for the second time in a row.
Clearly the ceremony’s good luck charm, preliminary reports suggest the show courted even more eyes than last year.
“MTV saw its highest-rated VMAs in three years among the 18-49 demographic with a 1.03 (compared to a 0.58 in 2020), according to early data from Nielsen. Among adults 18-34, the show saw its best rating since 2019, up 118% to a 1.14.
The awards show also saw 37% growth in total viewers year-over-year with 865,000 people tuning in to watch the show, versus 630,000 last year.”

Of course 2 fan bases watching a video that was also posted a couple of hours prior to Nick’s SOLO should have more views (mind you does not have much more) and they coming to see Cardi mess up that choreography 😂. That messy performance was thrown together last minute to “compete” with Nicki and they paid the price for it lmao. Doja’s SOLO at 2.2 million let’s compare that to the rats COLLAB that’s is flopping 😂 Y’all can run as many narratives as you want. I also think this year was more international than before. I never seen so many performances with unfamiliar ppl who spoke different languages.
Also unlike Bardigang I can be realistic lmao I think Bongos can be an entire hit, I’ve actually come to really like the song. I just truly feel like Cardi is dealing with a label not believing in her and needs to find way out of that deal and stop allowing this competition with an entire rap legend to overshadow everything she does. Her and Nicki are in completely different lanes and that’s not to say Cardi can’t eat because we’ve honestly seen her do it but she is not going to be able to survive if she keeps competing with someone on their 5th album when she has yet to see the second and I wish her fans would stop doing that to her. She has let Doja surpass her and put out three albums and still no sophomore.
