Much like with their 2020 megahit ‘WAP‘ before it, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion find themselves in a familiar position thanks to their latest duet ‘Bongos‘: atop the Billboard charts.
Details inside.
Cardi and Meg sent their respective fan bases, affectionately called #BardiGang and #Hotties, into the stratosphere at the top of the month with news they reunited for a new single.
Delivering the DJ SwanQo-produced cut alongside a smoking music video on September 8, the tune’s first-week commercial performance – which braved high expectations against the record-setting ‘WAP’ – was buoyed by handsome support on digital outlets in addition to the benefit of increased exposure courtesy of a much-talked about MTV VMAs showing.
Now that the dust has settled, ‘Bongos’ has blasted to #1 on the refreshed Digital Song Sales chart as the week’s overall top seller. The pure sales triumph – alongside handsome radio airplay and streaming figures – jetted the Cardi and Meg duet a #14 premiere on the updated Hot 100.
Here are the numbers that powered the latter placement.
- Digital Downloads ≈ 25,000 sold
- Streaming ≈ 15.5 million U.S.-based streams
- Radio Airplay ≈ 13.4 million audience impressions
While paling in comparison to the ‘WAP’ opening, the ‘Bongos’ start – which marks the 21st and 9th Hot 100 top 20 hit of Cardi and Meg’s respective careers – still manages to amplify hype for the former’s highly anticipated sophomore album (the follow-up to 2018’s history-making ‘Invasion of Privacy’).
