Just a month after watching his Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado reunion single, ‘Keep Going Up,’ become his first Hot 100-charting single in over a decade, Timbaland is looking to reach even higher Hot 100 heights with its follow-up: ‘My Way.’
Delivered his own imprint, Mosley Music Group, and Def Jam Recordings on Friday (October 20), the bass-buoyed bop – assisted by newcomer Anna Margo – is reminiscent of the producer extraordinaire’s late 90’s and early 2000’s hits (namely those with R&B princess Aaliyah).
“So tell me ’bout your big plan / You wanna see if I’m anything new / What makes you think I want somethin’ from you? / Try not to blink when I walk in the room,” she croons on the song’s pre-chorus.
The street-inspired wardrobe rocked by the rising California-based songstress in the tune’s accompanying music video also drew mixed comparisons to the late ‘Are You That Somebody?’ singer.
Look inside to see why.
Just No
Don’t touch Aaliyah’s classic music
That’s just lazy and annoying
And you have the nerve to let this girl sing on it
Boyyyy and it sounds noisy and bad
I love Tim but this sounds a mess
First of all, Tim DID create the rhythm track y’all love so much. He has the right to play with it if anyone does. Second, this is nothing more than a freestyle song over the original beat – it ain’t that serious. MY ISSUE is the optics…
Tim’s music with Aaliyah has been sampled plenty of times, but this feels wrong the way he’s using it, like a gimmick, and Aaliyah should never be reduced to that. I think he’s run out of ideas.
