Thanks to their new song ‘Better Place,’ the updated Hot 100 sees iconic boy band NSYNC in a familiar place after a lengthy hiatus: leading the pack.
Details inside.
Their first official release in over 20 years, the September 29-released track – the lead single from the soundtrack of the third installment of the ‘Trolls‘ film franchise (in theaters November 17) – opened at #25 on the refreshed Hot 100.
Bolstered mostly by digital sales and an even heartier welcome at radio, here are the numbers that powered the placement of ‘Place.’
- Streaming: 4.8 million U.S.-based streams
- Digital downloads: 17,000 downloads
- Radio Airplay: 29 million audience impressions
The fivesome’s first appearance on the tally since 2002, the #25 arrival of ‘Place’ ties 1998’s ‘I Want You Back‘ for first place among their all-time openings on the Hot 100.
With 17,000 sold, the Shellback-produced song comes as the second best-selling song of the week – bested only by the gargantuan 87,000 pure sales shifted by Jung Kook’s latest hit ‘3D.‘
Opening at #21 on radio charts, the 29 million audience impressions collected out-of-the-box by the ‘No Strings Attached’ quintet tie them to Billboard history books with the highest entrance for a song by a group since the hitlist began including all-format airplay in 1998.

I hear JT and JC only. Are the rest being Pussycat Dolled to the role of backup dancers again? This “reunion” must be Justin’s attempt to rehab his image cuz we can have Adam Levine sing in falsetto for 1/5th of the NSYNC price. Harmless mall music, though.
That’s what it always was. It was only ever JC and JR on the tracks. There might have been a couple with additional vocals. But they were the main singers.
LOL So true. Although honestly, this song would be much better with only JC singing and JT singing backup with the other four. But of course that would never happen, since JT is such a huge star and in ‘NSYNC’s heyday, the two leads were always JC and Justin. JC’s the far better singer, though. JT doesn’t really add anything.
