Jennifer Lopez has enjoyed a near-three-decade spell in the spotlight and achieved ample success.
And while her status as an Icon is undisputed, the superstar shared a fact that may have flown over the heads of many while collecting a major honor at the ELLE Women in Hollywood 2023 gala last night (December 5).

While accepting the publication’s Icon Award, J.Lo said:
“So this is kind of funny…because I was thinking about this on the way over here. So go with me on this for a second: I don’t have an Oscar, I don’t have a Golden Globe, I don’t have a Grammy, or a SAG award, or a BAFTA or a Critics Choice, or a Hollywood Film Award. I do a have a Palm Springs International Film Festival Spotlight Award. But this is my fifth “icon” award.
Of all the things that I thought I would grow up to be when I was a little girl, the last thing you know that was kind of on my list was ICON. I always look up the word “icon” every time this happens. The dictionary says “it’s a representative symbol, or someone or something that is worthy of veneration. So it’s about being venerated for things that you’ve accomplished,” which obviously I am very honored and flattered, and humbled by in this company. This award is also about being a representative symbol, in this case what is it is to be a woman in Hollywood.
It doesn’t appear that the remarks carried any ill will; that said, her words are certainly food for thought.
From our vantage point, Ms. Lopez is more than deserving of many of the awards that have eluded her to date.
And given how hard she continues to hustle, it’s only a matter of time before she finally starts to get her dues. At least, we hope so.
In the here and now, J.Lo will be releasing her new single ‘Can’t Get Enough’ on January 10. Her first album in a decade, ‘This Is Me…Now,’ will arrive alongside a like-titled movie on February 16.

Other than looking cute, she isn’t particularly talented. She can’t sing, can’t write, can’t produce and she’s a mediocre actress.
Lol it’s funny u mention all of those things yet the AVERAGE singer doesn’t write or produce their own music but u expect it from JLO. JLO is an entertainer like Janet, Michael ,Ciara , Madonna who are known for their dancing and stay performances not their vocals. Before you say well Michael can sing yes I agree but the world remembers his dancing n stage performances NOT his vocals.
Everyone you mentioned are better singers than J.Lo and they sing on key. They also write and produce their own music.
She thought it would be cute but that was a bit of a self-drag lol I will say though: other nocalists have won Grammys before and her Hustlers role definitely deserved a Golden Globe (not sure about an Oscar)
Her acting in Hustlers was just ok. The movie sucked overall.

She is not respected because everyone knows she’s just “there” to exist.
JLO tops no one’s music artist and artist lists.
Even the Latin/Spanish audiences do not like her. Zero Latin Grammys. Even Shakira and Xtina have won multiple Latin Grammys.
There’s nothing special about those awards anymore. It was a big thing when music was selling and Hollywood was making original movies, but now awards are used like chess pieces.
I don’t care what anyone says…. EVERY artist wants to receive the highest honor in their respective field. It comes with a certain level of prestige (and pay, bragging rights but I digress). But whatever helps them sleep at night lol.
When you put out a Grammy worthy piece of music, or deliver a Oscar worthy performance, them we’ll see😅

5 icon awards? How many decades is she in the business? It only shows that the award is worthless instead of her status as an icon. Which is also debatable.
