Lil Nas X Hits Back at Tyrese & Other Critics of His “Christian” Era: “Y’all Pretend Some Pastors Aren’t Getting Piped Down”

How you gonna act like that took on a new meaning recently for singer-actor Tyrese after he caught wind of Lil Nas X previewing a new song claiming he was getting ready to enter a “Christian era.”

LNX (born Montero Hill), who made headlines in 2021 for endorsing “Satan shoes” as well as for dancing with the devil in the controversial ‘Call Me By Your Name‘ music video, stunned fans with a tune lined with lyrics about God (as seen in the clip above).

The polarized responses from Twitter users led Hill to quickly shut down the implication the move was inauthentic.

“Making Christian music does not mean i can’t suck d-ck no more. the two are not mutually exclusive. i am allowed to get on my knees for multiple reasons,” he said at the time. “Y’all see everything i do as a gimmick. when in reality im just an artist expressing myself in different ways. whether im a cowboy, gay, satanic, or now christian y’all find a problem! y’all don’t police nobody else art like mine. y’all hate me because im fun cute and petite.”

Among those who weren’t exactly thrilled with his response was Tyrese, who made clear he didn’t appreciate the “mockery” of Christianity.

“Y’all gone learn to stop playing with God … God is not to be played with … From shoes with devil signs and devils blood in the [shoe] sole?” the 6x GRAMMY nominee wrote on Instagram. “We can all change I get it but I feel a way about people making a mockery about Jesus. Do you, life your life .. Do what makes you happy but yall better stop playing with Jesus out here.”

After being shunned by a slew of Christian rappers, organizations, and leaders as well, Montero took to Twitter took to Twitter to clap back at all the critics.

“This really crazy cuz all i did was post a song about asking God for hope when you feel hopeless and yall acting like I posted a video of me burning a church down and peeing on a nativity scene,” he relayed.

As the criticisms continue to pour in, LNX kept hitting back at the detractors.

At writing, the GRAMMY winner has not revealed when or if the “Christian” song will be released.
