TLC tower tall ’til this day as one of the greatest girl groups of all-time. Yet, while the ladies did venture out solo, their efforts were few and far between.
This week’s From The Vault salutes T-Boz’s brief but sweet swing of the bat with her 1996 single ‘Touch Myself.’
Housed on the soundtrack for the movie ‘Fled’ starring Laurence Fishburne and Stephen Baldwin, the racy track was penned and produced by frequent TLC collaborator Dallas Austin.
Continuing to lyrically embrace the group’s gutsy and unapologetic nature, T-Boz turned up the heat with this super direct self-love anthem.
An ode to administering pleasure to “yourself,” the catchy cut was powered by the star’s trademark rasp and hard-hitting 90s R&B production.
Its simple yet effective video was directed by Bille Woodruff and sees T-Boz aptly dance with herself while interspliced clips of the film are showcased.
A top 40 hit, ‘Touch Myself’ peaked at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also hit #23 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop tally and #3 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music count.
Not a smash, but a rare gem. And one that still shines today.
Say what???? I’ve known about let alone heard this song before.
I’ve never**
Then go check out Touch Myself remix also….it has a video too
Omg I was just thinking I wanted to hear T-boz touch myself today thank you tgj lol side note I wish her and Chilli would have released solo albums they literally ran the 90s
I swear her voice is one of the most annoying things ever… the beat is generic af
STFU racist CLOWN. Over 50 million albums sold and multiple number one classic songs. Safe to say millions of people enjoy her voice and singing.
That was like 30 years ago, sweetie… they ain’t selling s h it now. That explains why no major labels signing them instead of kickstarting their album. Miss T-Bone steak has the deepest voice like some Howler m on key. Annoying af
@TINO Agreed. TBOZ is a legend and deserves her flowers. She put more than enough work in
The remix was a hit in my household!!
I love this woman! And this song!
