Billboard 200: Taylor Swift Makes History as ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Debuts at #1 With OVER 2.5 Million Units Sold

Taylor Swift towers tall on the latest iteration of the Billboard 200 with her new studio album ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’

And the first week numbers are gargantuan.

Moments ago, it was revealed that the Pop titan debuted at #1 on the coveted US count with a whopping:

2.61 million Units First Week

Of that sum, 1.914 million units were accrued by way pure sales; vinyl sales (from that portion of the sales) sit at a jaw-dropping 859,000. Streaming also factored heavily into the huge opening. For,  the album’s 31 songs generated 891.34 million on-demand official streams.

The latter sees the project makes history for delivering largest streaming week for an album… ever.

Swift, who now holds 14 #1s on the tally, now ties Jay-Z for the most#1s among soloists in the near-70-year history of the Billboard 200. Only The Beatles, with 19 #1s, have more.

Reacting to the news, Swift said:

“My mind is blown. I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album. 2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed. I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough 🤍”
