Jason Derulo’s Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Dismissed / Plaintiff Plans to Refile In Another State

Published: Wednesday 17th Apr 2024 by Rashad

It’s been 6 months since Jason Derulo landed atop global headlines following accusations from Emaza Gibson that the award-winning singer was sexually aggressive with her and threatened to stall her music career if she didn’t engage in sexual acts with him.

Derulo quickly denied the allegations, but that didn’t stop Gibson’s legal team from moving forward with the shocking lawsuit.

Despite the ongoing hoopla, the ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home’ hitmaker seemingly went home unscathed after a judge dismissed the suit on Tuesday (April 16).

There’s a catch, however.

Though not completely off the hook, the California judge dropped the suit on the basis of Gibson previously signing contracts that indicated she would handle any disputes using New York state law.

After the ruling, her attorney immediately vowed to refile her claims on the East Coast.

“This case is still very much in play. The judge did not rule on the merits of the plaintiff’s claims but merely changed the venue,” Gibson’s lawyer Ronald Zambrano said in a statement. “The allegations against Derulo by Ms. Gibson remain unchanged and we remain committed to holding him accountable for his reprehensible and illegal conduct. The lawsuit will be refiled in New York, and we fully intend to win.”

Derulo’s team doesn’t plan to go down without a fight, however.

“We are fully committed to defending Jason’s innocence against these blatantly false and baseless claims. If these false accusations are refiled in New York, we are confident that the New York court will ultimately dismiss the case and prove Jason’s innocence. The court was correct in dismissing the lawsuit in California,” Derulo’s legal team said in response to the dismissal.

At the time of this report Jason has not publicly spoken on the case being dropped.
