In tragic news, ‘American Idol’ star and GRAMMY Award winner Mandisa has died.
Full story below…
Mandisa’s death was announced on K-Love – a Christian radio station.
She was just 47.
David Pierce, K-LOVE Chief Media Officer said on air:
“Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn. Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart.
[She] struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles. Mandisa’s struggles are over. She is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.”
No cause of death was disclosed.
Mandisa rose to prominence as a front-runner on season 5 of ‘American Idol’ in 2006. She placed within the top 10.
Thereafter, she went on to achieve success in the Gospel sphere, most notably with her 2013 album ‘Overcomer’ – home to ‘Stronger,’ ‘Good Morning’ and ‘My Deliverer.’ The set earned her the GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
Beyond music, she was open about her struggles with depression and addiction – most especially in her book ‘Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy.’
May Mandisa rest in peace.
Sorry but I only remember Tamika aka H.E.R and Rhonetta aka Normani 💅🏻
So sad! I remember when she was on Idol, she was a good singer with great potential. May she RIP.
