November 2024 will mark two decades since the debut of Ciara and Missy Elliott‘s smash hit ‘1, 2 Step.’
And while the two have rendered other unforgettable collaborations over the years including ‘Work‘ (2009) and ‘Lose Control‘ (2005), ‘Step’ remains their crown jewel as it peaked #2 on the Hot 100 – marking one of both artists’ highest-charting hits ever.
While hot on the promo trail for their forthcoming ‘Out of This World Tour’ with Timbaland and Busta Rhymes, Ci and Miss not only reflected on the magic of ‘1,2 Step’ as it dances toward its 20th anniversary but also teased there’s more magic in store for their dedicated fans.
Details inside.
Ahead of the July 4 kick off of the ‘Out of This World Tour’ (Missy’s first-ever headlining live trek), the legendary Hip-Hop star invited ‘ET Online’ behind the scenes of the photoshoot for the jaunt’s iconic posters.
When not chatting about their excitement for the tour, Miss and Ci reflected on the 20th anniversary of their first collaboration.
“Such a special record,” Ciara said to ‘ET’ resident anchor Nichelle Turner. “It’s been 20 years but it’s still one of our biggest songs which is crazy and that’s when you know you’ve made something special because people sing it like its fresh and it trends on TikTok.”
Once Turner quizzed Missy and Ciara if they would reunite for a new song and feature Busta, the ladies played coy.
“We’ve got some surprises,” Miss said while laughing. “We’ve got to hold something [to ourselves] to make [the people] want to come [to our show]. We can’t tell everything.”
And while she didn’t give a direct answer for a reunion collab with Ci, Nichelle also asked Missy on when her new album – the follow-up to 2005’s Platinum-certified ‘The Cookbook‘ – will drop.
“You know I never tell if I’m working on new music because my fans be wildin out and they will never let me live that down, but surprises surprises are coming,” she relayed.
