SZA may only have two albums to her credit, but in just 7 short years she’s lifted sales stats that rival some of music history’s biggest names.
With 10 Hot 100 top 10 hits and over 60 million singles sold in the United States alone, the GRAMMY-winning songstress has proven herself an undeniable force in music.
For those reasons and more, the Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced the R&B diva (born Solana Rowe) will be the recipient of one of its biggest honors at the organization’s forthcoming induction ceremony.
After making headlines for news the coveted hall would be bestowing Diane Warren the Johnny Mercer Award and inducting names like Timothy Mosley p/k/a Timbaland, Michael Stipe of R.E.M. at this year’s 53rd annual event, they’ve now sent SZA fans into a frenzy with the report the 34-year-old will be accepting the Hal David Starlight Award.
“Phenomenal artists like Beyonce and Taylor Swift are pushing the envelope of what success looks like but who could argue that the last two years belong to SZA,” said SHOF Chairman Nile Rodgers. “Incredible songwriting, incredible performances, incredible artistry. She so deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!”
Created in 2004 in honor of SHOF Chairman Emeritus Hal David, the award acknowledges the contributions of young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry. Previous recipients include Drake, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Ne-Yo, Post Malone, Lil Nas X, Halsey, Ed Sheeran, Nick Jonas, and others.
The 2024 Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner is set for the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City on June 13.
