Patti LaBelle may have just celebrated her 80th birthday on May 24, but the legendary songstress – whose career spans over 6 decades – suggests she’s far from done cranking out hits.
Chatting it up with our friends at ‘Entertainment Tonight’ at her surprise birthday party recently, an emotional Patti dished on everything from toasting her longtime industry friends to looking back at her longevity in the music business, being grateful for her health at 80-years-young, and so much more.
When she wasn’t reflecting on her immeasurable impact, LaBelle spilled some secrets about her plans for 2024 – some of which involve some surprising prospective collaborators.
Not even a year after her unexpected culinary collaboration with Cardi B, Miss Patti served up a report that the chart-topping rapper may be teaming with her for another joint venture this holiday season: new music.
“Why not? She’s like one of my new best friends,” LaBelle said about a potential duet with the ‘Bodak Yellow’ hitmaker. “To know that [Cardi] was into Patti LaBelle. She’s like my new buddy.”
If the tune comes to fruition it will be one of many gems set to line the 80-year-old’s forthcoming album.
“It should be out at the end of this year and it’s called 8065,” she shared. “I’m 80 years young and 65 years in show business.”
At writing, the only confirmed guest for the project is the Empress of Soul/Patti’s longtime friend Gladys Knight but previous reports indicated superstars like GRAMMY winners Mariah Carey, Jazmine Sullivan, and Ledisi were also among the list of high-profile contributors.
What’s more, the diva’s dedicated fans will get to hear some of the favorites from ‘8065’ live as she’s reportedly gearing up for a new tour.
Keep it locked to That Grape Juice as more official news about the LP makes its way to the net.
