Chart Check [Hot 100]: Katy Perry’s ‘Woman’s World’ Delivers Lukewarm Debut

Published: Tuesday 23rd Jul 2024 by Rashad

It may be a woman’s world, but it doesn’t look like Katy Perry is running it.

Full story below…

After an extended absence from the charts due to her judging duties at ‘American Idol,’ Perry came pouncing back to the music scene (much to the excitement of her #KatyCat fans) with the thunderous ‘Woman’s World‘ alongside a big-budget, Charlotte Rutherford-directed music video on July 11.

And while the initial commercial response to the Dr. Luke-produced jam seemed promising, the feedback scale tipped to mixed once detractors started weighing in on the visual’s “weak attempt at feminism” – a note of particular interest for critics of Luke and his history of legal woes stemming from accusations of being everything but empowering to women.

With the final numbers in, it appears the wave of negative press orbiting ‘World’ – the first single from Katy’s forthcoming album ‘143‘ – has contributed to its lukewarm launch on the charts. For, the song has premiered at #63 on the updated Hot 100. Look below to see the numbers that powered the placement.

  • Streaming ≈ 6.8 million U.S.-based streams
  • Radio Airplay ≈ 14.5 million audience impressions
  • Sales ≈ 11,000 Digital downloads

It’s not all doom and gloom, however.

The figures above are among the best attached to any new song printed on the updated Hot 100 – which this week is ruled by Shaboozey‘s ‘Bar Song (Tipsy)‘ in its second spell in pole position.

‘World’ also serves as one of the highest-charting new hits by a woman this week.

The #63 bow also marks the top Hot 100 position the Pop diva’s reached since planting ‘Daisies‘ at #40 in 2020.

    It’s not lead single material.
Although I like the vibe and sounds of 143, it’s very circa 2012. Maybe it should have been released then with the original version of Titanium as was intended – a David guetta and Katy Perry collab.

It falls flat… it’s the same old sound, same old formula but not upgraded.

Obviously she’s trying to recapture what made her super famous before going for her Miley/Britney I’m kind of Looney eras.

And the whole boobs and thong out seem like a desperate attempt for attention. She never behaved like this and now it’s justified with the whole feminism BS “my body I do what I want”. Sure you can, but you do it for desperate attention and commercial appeal.

She should release next the song that samples Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters.
Great for summertime, clubs, remixes and such.

And that song “Gorgeous” kinda gives me “Dark Horse” vibe, that one could work as well on the charts.

Katy’s glory days are FAR behind her. This will be (another) flop era for her.
