Chart Check [Hot 100]: Kehlani’s ‘After Hours’ Becomes Her Longest-Charting Solo Hit Since 2016’s ‘Gangsta’

Published: Wednesday 10th Jul 2024 by Rashad

Nearly 10 years after Kehlani first burst onto the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Gangsta‘ (her contribution to 2016’s ‘Suicide Squad‘ soundtrack), the GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter continues to prove herself a formidable force in female R&B.

As critical acclaim for her June 21-released fourth studio album ‘Crash‘ continues to roll in, the R&B diva (born Kehlani Parrish) is seeing some of that fanfare reflected commercially via the ongoing performance of the LP’s lead single ‘After Hours.’

Peruse of the updated Hot 100 sees Parrish printed at #84. Here are the numbers that powered the placement.

  • Streaming ≈ 4.4 million U.S.-based streams
  • Sales ≈ 400 digital downloads
  • Radio airplay ≈ 13.8 million audience impressions

Most notably, the ‘Hours’ clocked its 6th week of appearing on the all-genre chart – marking a milestone for Kehlani.

Among her unaccompanied entries, the Nina Sky-sampling jam has surpassed ‘CRZY‘ to reign as her second longest-reigning hit on the Hot 100.  The only solo song in her prized discography to boast a longer tenancy is ‘Gangsta’ which held on to the chart for 12 weeks in 2016.

When all of Kehlani’s charted numbers are considered, her overall lengthiest stay belongs to the Cardi B-led ‘Ring‘ (which shined on the Hot 100 for a whopping 20 weeks in 2018).
