Usher Praises the BET Awards & Performers for His “Amazing” Tribute: “Y’all Did the Damn Thing!”

Viewers of Sunday’s BET Awards (June 30) are still buzzing after the nearly 17-minute long tribute to Usher assembled some of Urban music’s best and brightest to toast the R&B superstar’s 30-year career and treasure trove of hits.

Yet, while many took to social media to heap praise on the female-led performance that featured the likes of KeKe Palmer, Victoria Monet, Latto, Chloe Bailey, Marsha Ambrosius, Tinashe, Summer Walker, Teyana Taylor, and Coco Jones, others fled to the platforms to complain about the glaring dearth of testosterone (barring Childish Gambino).

And though some wondered why the likes of Luke James, WanMor, Lucky Daye, October London, Durand Bernarr, and other male R&B crooners weren’t tapped to lend their talents to the moment, the honoree himself was not among those wielding complaints.

Look inside to see how he reacted to the unforgettable moment.

First taking to Instagram, Ush showered praise on the lengthy list of performers who helped bring his BET Awards tribute to life.

“Reflecting on the incredible evening and mannn let me just say how grateful I am to @bet @betawards for the lifetime achievement award [prayer hands emoji],” he posted to his 13.1 million Instagram followers (as seen above). “But I want to take a moment and give a very, very special thank U to these tremendously talented entertainers that graced the stage during my tribute…y’all did the DAMN thing!!! It was so amazing to witness each of your talents through the eyes of my own journey… thank U.”

Doubling down, the 8x GRAMMY winner took to X (formerly known as Twitter) the echo the sentiment.

“My tribute was amazing man,” he started the post (as seen above). “Thank U to each and every one involved in the making of this moment.”

His appreciation may not silence the critics who believe the performance was too estrogen-driven, but at least it’s known how the man of the hour himself felt.
