Victoria Monet and Teyana Taylor may have already given each other flowers over their epic contribution to the star-studded BET Awards tribute to Usher, but little did they know their nod to the R&B superstar’s legendary 2004 performance of ‘Bad Girl‘ featuring Beyonce would garner praise from the original performers.
More inside.
Arguably the highlight of a megawatt, star-studded tribute to Ush that also included KeKe Palmer, Coco Jones, Chloe Bailey, Tinashe, and others, Victoria and Teyana’s take on his ‘Confessions‘ hit ‘Bad Girl’ served a scorching reminder of just how bad the R&B divas are respectively (speak less as a unit).
While Tey took lead on the vocals, Vic – in an homage to Beyonce – showed off some dazzling footwork before the two joined forces in synchronized choreography.
Although Usher lent a standing ovation at the time of the showing, he took to social media the next day to double down on his elation.
“I want to take a moment and give a very, very special thank U to these tremendously talented entertainers that graced the stage during my tribute…y’all did the DAMN thing,” he said (as reported here).
Apparently, he wasn’t the only one impressed.
The typically elusive Beyonce even took to her Instagram stories to suggest she approved by sharing side-by-side stills of her performance with Usher 20 years ago and Victoria and Teyana’s showing on Sunday (June 30).
“OOOOH MYYYY GOD!!!!! I AM SCREAMING!! WHATTTT!! CAN NOT GRASP AIR I AM UNWELL HOLY S–T I did not expect to pass out today! GAGGEDD…completely,” Monét replied on her own Instagram page. “@beyonce WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!! THE ORIGINAL BAD GYAL I will forever honor you.” She later tagged Taylor and added “WTFFFF PINCH ME.”
Teyana could barely contain her excitement either.
“yes everything she saiddddd!!! Bihhhhh I’m speechless,” Taylor replied after writing “& DATS ON QUEEN BEYYYYYYYYYYYY” and “I’m GAGGGGINGGGGGGGI!!!! @victoriamonet get in here neowwwwwww!!!!!”
