Ashanti is opening up about the joys of motherhood.
As reported, the singer and husband Nelly announced that they welcomed their baby boy – Kareem Kenkaide Haynes – on July 18.
Now, in a new interview, the ‘Only U’ singer is dishing on giving birth to her first child, Nelly as a parent, who baby “KK” (as they are referring to him) resembles most, and much more.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti said of the day she gave birth to her son:
“It was an amazing and incredible experience. He actually came a little early. And dad had to fly in last minute, which was awesome. He made it well before time. And just having all of us in the delivery room and seeing his face for the first time. I cried. It was so emotional. It was very emotional and spiritual, to say the least.”
On how becoming a mom has changed her, the 43-year-old added:
“It changed me extent that I’m no longer in charge. My son definitely dictates everything. He is the priority over all. And just a feeling of protection and feeling selfless. A feeling of knowing – no matter what it takes – I’m going to give everything to my son. He is first. Regardless of anything. This little boy has my entire soul wrapped around his little finger.”
Quizzed on how Nelly (who has children from a previous relationship) is with Baby KK, Ashanti gushed:
“It’s incredible to watch how confident, how gentle, and how soothing he is with his son.”
As for who the newborn looks like most, the performer concluded:
“In the beginning, he was definitely resembling Nelly more. But now, oh my gosh, he’s my twin!”
