In the same era that saw Megan Thee Stallion gallop into Billboard record books when ‘Hiss‘ made her only the third female rapper in the 65-year history of the Hot 100 to debut at #1 (following Lauryn Hill, and Nicki Minaj), the 3x GRAMMY winner trots into an exclusive diva club because of her latest viral hit ‘Mamushi.’
Details inside.
Thanks to a viral dance challenge on Tik Tok, ‘Mamushi’ – found aboard Stallion’s June 28-released, chart-topping third studio album ‘Megan‘ – has continued its slow but steady ascent to the Hot 100’s topmost quadrant.
Found at a new peak of #34 this week, here are the numbers that powered the placement.
- Streaming ≈ 11.6 million U.S.-based streams
- Sales ≈ 1,500 digital downloads
- Radio Airplay ≈ 1.7 million audience impressions
Finding commendable success ahead of the release of its official music video, the Yuki Chiba-assisted bop’s elevation into the top 40 came as quite the notable accomplishment for both its performers.
While the #34 placement comes as the first top 40 hit on the American Hot 100 for the Japanese rapper-singer Chiba, for Meg – on the other hand – it marks her milestone 20th time visiting the chart region.
In fact, there are only three other female rappers who can say they have had as many trips to the hitlist’s top 40 – Missy Elliott (21), Cardi B (34), and Nicki Minaj (75).
As we anxiously await to learn of the next Hot 100 peak of ‘Mamushi,’ look below to see who joins Meg and Yuki on the refreshed TGJ Chart Check.
