Justin Timberlake has had his driving license suspended at the first hearing in his driving while intoxicated case.
Full story below…
As reported, JT was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in The Hamptons in June.
Responding officers claim that the ‘Cry Me a River’ singer reeked of alcohol at the time he was taken into custody.
In the time since, Timberlake’s legal team asserted that he was not intoxicated and pointed to a number of missteps by prosecutors as to why the case ought to be tossed out.
And while it remains to be seen whether that will be the outcome, today’s pre-scheduled hearing went ahead as planned – with the singer appearing virtually because he is on tour in Europe.
Presiding Judge Irace suspended Timberlake’s driving license for a period not disclosed as the case unfolds.
Elsewhere, the judge critiqued JT’s defense lawyer Edward Burke for “irresponsible” comments he made to journalists outside the courthouse.
Per NBC, a gag order was threatened should the conduct continue. Judge Irace is quoted as saying:
“It comes off as an attempt to poison the case before it even begins.”
Timberlake pleaded not guilty to the DWI charge.
Should the 43-year-old be found guilty, the state of New York can hand down a number of punishments. These include a year in jail, a $1,000 fine, and the suspension of a driver’s license for a minimum of six months.
