Lauryn Hill is speaking up and out in the wake of the Fugees’ canceled reunion tour.
As reported, the plug was pulled on the North American leg of the trek just three days before it was set to start.
At the time, no details were provided beyond confirmation that refunds would be made available to ticket holders.
Now, Hill has added a unique context to the situation.

Taking to Instagram, the singer-songwriter was frank in the admission that low ticket sales were the reason for the cancellation of ‘Lauryn Hill & The Fugees – The Celebration Continues.’ A trek mounted in support of the band’s legacy and the 25th anniversary of ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ album.
Yet, she interestingly pointed to “sensationalism” around previously canceled shows as a reason for diminished interest Stateside.
Elsewhere, she insisted that she and group members Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel will proceed with the UK and European leg of the trek.

“With difficulty the decision was made to pull down our upcoming North American tour dates.
The shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned.
Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows. Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour. The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.
The audiences in the UK and Europe not only haven’t seen the Miseducation Anniversary performance yet, they also haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years!
Performing for my fans, is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.
Know that I am not only grateful for those who appreciate and support my art, but that I FIGHT and push through all kinds of resistance to put together experiences that mean something for all of us. I love being able to bring these performances to you!
I appreciate your understanding. We’re looking forward to performing at the shows in the UK and Europe in October — and for our fans in North America, when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved, we’ll be back in full force…
With Love, Respect and Honesty,
MLH”
With that, what are…
#FINALLY
I never thought i’d ever see an artist finally admit LOW SALES as the culprit behind the cancellation.
They usually blame it on everything else under the sun.
Lie, lie lie…
Full of ish 😂 as usual . Stricter
Girl bye Lauryn’s track record of lateness and/or no shows is LEGENDARY and it finally came back to bite her in the ass. I do respect her for being honest about the cancellations.
I saw Lauryn a few years back when she was on tour with Nas. She was on time and spectacular but already had a reputation for being late. So the question I have is, does she still show up late, or has she grown past this? If so, we need to grow with her and see her for what she is: a true and rare talent.
We don’t need to do sh!t. If she respected her audience she would show up on time, all of the time. The fans have given her more than enough grace and time to grow. Now people are just over it and her.
Say what ou will, Lauryn has always been eloquent. My take on her lateness? A fragile voice. Hers isn’t built for strong vocals (worsened by her decision to shout her bars) and needs tons of warming up. My advice? Stick to Dionne Warwick-esque, mellow tunes.
That just means she needs to start warming up earlier. Sing in the car on the way to the venue, in the dressing room, bathroom, do what you have to do according to the date and time you agreed to.
Some hurt their voices by over warming up (Dame, Joan Sutherland, refused to warm up before an opera lest nothing of her voice remains for the stage). Throw in acid reflux if unclean diet, little sleep because of stage fright (Mimi’s lambs’ favorite excuse), plus some they-tryna-keel-me-softly-in-the-car paranoia. . .and voilà! Haha
So instead I downgrading the venue, she canceled the tour days before t was set to start.
Make sense!
you ain’t never beating your reputation. I was laughing so hard at Pell buying those tickets. Like when will you EVER Lean?
Maybe after this time, they got the memo.
I think no one really wanted to see the Fugees. Lauryn was the main attraction and everytime she tours she sells out. Regardless of her reputation. Lauryn is loved and people want to experience her live. Unfortunately she was very late and rushed through her set when I saw her live so I wouldn’t pay to see her again.
They fumbled the bag. She’s chronically late and grossly unreliable. And the group, as a whole, hasn’t had a hit in over 30 years. Nobody is paying their good money to risk having to wait 5 hours or more for them. They aren’t that great. Glad they’re finally getting the message.
Girl just say you don’t want to be in the industry anymore…we understand but to get people fired up bc of your consistent rudeness that’s not cool Ms Hill
Yall forget that she was FORCED to tour yeaaarrrsss ago because she owed taxes. She probably fulfilled her debts by now but got addicted to that touring coin. I stopped f****** with Lauryn when she had the nerve to say we’re lucky that she even shows up to perform. That weird b**** has no respect for the fans, promoters or venues. Well deserved cancellation!!!!
