Prince has just received a major honor.

The legendary artist was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on July 27 at a 40th anniversary screening of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ at the Target Center in his native Minneapolis.

It was the second time that the Songwriters Hall of Fame has awarded an artist posthumously after inducting the late Cindy Walker in April.

The award was given to Prince’s sister, Sharon Nelson.

“You will always remember his songs. his is the award he wanted more than any other in life — to be known as a great songwriter,” she told the audience.

He was supposed to be inducted a couple times, but scheduling got in the way.
