The-Dream Files to Have “Scandalous” Rape Lawsuit Thrown Out

The-Dream is making legal maneuvers to have a rape lawsuit thrown out.

Full story below…

As reported, the hitmaker – who has helmed colossal smashes for the likes of Rihanna and Justin Bieber – was accused of rape and sexual battery back in June by a former protégé Channii Monroe (real name  Chanaaz Mangroe).

At the time, the 47-year-old denied all of the allegations.

Now, The-Dream (real name Terius Gesteelde-Diamant) has filed to have large portions of Monroe’s claims quashed.

According to the BBC, attorneys for the producer-performer are seeking a myriad of amendments to the suit. The majority of which would severely impact the entirety of the case against him.

Deeming much of Monroe’s submission as “scandalous” and “immaterial,” The-Dream’s team is:

  • Seeking to dismiss the rape claim on the basis that rape is not a separate civil cause of action under California law.
  • Moving to disqualify the sex trafficking claim, stressing that it fails to allege required elements like a “commercial sex act.”

  • Asking that his label Contra Paris, LLC be removed from the suit, as it’s based in Delaware and therefore lacks personal jurisdiction in California (where the case was filed).

The-Dream’s attorney Desirée F. Moore labeled the suit “shotgun pleading” – which is the term used to describe a case that puts forth an excessive number of points with no clear organization, and then asserts that those points somehow support the claims at the center of the case mounted.  She said:

“The complaint is a textbook example of a ‘shotgun pleading’ and must be dismissed in its entirety for failing to attribute specific factual allegations to each defendant.”

A statement from The-Dream on the case read:

“I oppose all forms of harassment and have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.”
