It’s Kendrick Lamar season!
Just a day after learning his surprise album ‘GNX‘ debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with the year’s biggest sales for a new Rap LP, the project’s lead single – ‘Squabble Up‘ – is enjoying similar news on the Hot 100.
‘Squabble’ debuted at #1 on the refreshed Hot 100. Here are the numbers that powered the placement:
- Streaming ≈ 52 million U.S.-based streams
- Sales ≈ 5,000 digital downloads
- Radio Airplay ≈ 5.7 million audience impressions
Beyond becoming his third #1 hit this year alone (following ‘Like That‘ and ‘Not Like Us‘), Lamar becomes the first solo male ever to nab three #1 debuts in a calendar year.
‘Squabble’ shines as Lamar’s fifth chart-topper overall.
As if that’s not enough to celebrate, the Compton MC adds 7 shiny new songs to his top 10 count as well thanks to ‘GNX’ hits ‘TV Off‘ (#2), ‘Luther‘ (#3), ‘Wacced Out Murals‘ (#4), ‘Hey Now‘ (#5), ‘Reincarnated‘ (#8), and ‘Man at the Garden‘ (#9).
In doing so, he becomes the first American male performer to occupy 70% or more of the Hot 100’s topmost dectet by his lonesome. He’s also the first American male to own the entire top 5 in one week.
His career top 10 count now sits at 22.
Among all performers, Taylor Swift holds the record with ten concurrent top 10 placements while Canadian hitmaker Drake holds the title among men with 9.
