While it’s pretty obvious that Mariah Carey‘s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You‘ will eventually go down as the most popular song in history, watching its journey to that title is nothing short of remarkable.
Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ maintained its grip on the Hot 100’s top spot for a historic 18th week. Here are the numbers that powered the placement.
- Streaming: 71.9 million U.S.-based streams
- Sales: 8,000 digital downloads and physicals
- Radio Airplay: 35.4 million audience impressions
Last week, ‘Christmas’ became the longest-running female-led #1 hit in the 66-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 when it notched a 17th week in the chart’s pole position.
To achieve the feat, Carey broke a tie with herself as 1996’s ‘One Sweet Day‘ was the previous owner of the title.
With its 18th week atop the chart this week, however, ‘Christmas’ has helped Carey break another of her own records as it’s the first song by a woman to rule over the Hot 100 as long.
Among all #1 hits, the only two to have reigned longer are Shaboozey‘s ‘Bar Song‘ and Lil Nas X‘s ‘Old Town Road‘ (19 weeks apiece).
As if the above isn’t enough to boast, MC now has 97 career weeks atop the Hot 100 thanks to her 19 #1s – more than any other artist ever.

I really hope she reclaims her record because Old Town Road and A Bar Song have no business being in this category
I second that🤞
AGREED !!!
This classic will top billiard every Xmas until the world ends.
