Mariah Carey‘s perennial hit ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You‘ may have added some new notches to its lengthy repertoire of history-making achievements in 2024, but one of the biggest (yet least trumpeted) was undoubtedly becoming the longest-charting song by a Black woman in the 66-year history of the Billboard Hot 100.
Carey’s ‘Christmas’ now reigns as the longest-reigning Hot 100 chart-topper by any woman ever thanks to racking up its 18th week at #1 last week.
The feat, accomplished in its 71st frame of charting, also made it the first song by a Black woman to enjoy as lengthy a tenancy on the tally.
Before her, SZA‘s ‘SOS‘ smash ‘Snooze‘ clocked out of the chart after a whopping 70-week run.
Among all female acts, Carey’s ‘Christmas’ is now runner-up to the all-time champion Dua Lipa whose 2020 smash ‘Levitating‘ soared on the Pop chart for a jaw-dropping 77 weeks!

Black woman? Going by the “One black blood drop makes a person black” rule? Anyhow, congrats, Mimi. Living legends need to hold/break more records to keep this generation of ear offenders lagging behind. Snooze can’t hold a candle to Mrs. Santa’s anthem, tho not my fave festive falala.
One isn’t like the other. The headline should read Longest Charting Hit From a BIRACIAL Woman.
Agreed
Mariah is a black woman worry about your frozen fav
Mariah Carey is down with the brown, and the black community has been her biggest supporters, but that lady is NOT black. Cut it. She shows up in this world leaning more towards white. Sza still holds that title.
