As reported here, the ‘Hot in Herre‘ hitmaker felt the heat of a firestorm of criticism after it was announced he would be among the many performers taking the stage to celebrate Trump’s official reclamation of the U.S. president’s office. Ashanti Braves Backlash
The blowback was so severe, he took to ‘Willie D. Live‘ to defend his decision by asserting the agreement to perform wasn’t politically nor monetarily driven.
“I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this because it’s an honor. I respect the office. It don’t matter who is in office,” he relayed during the interview.
Seemingly doing more harm than good with his justification, the heat seemed to have spilled over to his hitmaking wife Ashanti.
Seeing her name trending on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday night (January 19), the GRAMMY-winning songstress was deemed guilty by association as thousands of tweets asserted her silence on the matter (so far) has suggested compliance.

Making matters worse, multiple Ashanti fan pages – including fan favorite AshantiNews – issued statements indicating they will no longer be rocking with the ‘Rock Wit U‘ singer over her affiliation with Nelly.
All isn’t lost, however.
Some fan pages pledged to continue support of the R&B diva beyond the backlash.

Nelly’s music peaked early to mid 2000s. He can’t just live off of his *NSYNC feature royalties forever. 😉 His wife can’t be making millions being an ex-ghost singer, either. And with a growing family and declining commerciability, the man needs as many checks as he can get. So what he’ll sing for a man he may secretly hate for cash?
