‘Lighters Up’ hitmaker Lil Kim saw her social media mentions light up over the last day as critics slammed the rapstress for intended well-wishes deemed insensitive amid the ongoing wildfires in California.
With a death toll of over 25 Americans and counting, the ongoing California wildfires is the costliest natural event of its kind in U.S. history from every perspective including life, property, and land (with the latter two expected to exceed tens of billions of dollars).
For those reasons and others, millions have flocked to social media to express their condolences to those who have lost loved ones, pets, homes, land, and property – including celebrities.
GRAMMY-winning rapstress Lil Kim’s heart may have been in the right place when she joined the chorus of sympathizers on social media, but some critics believe her mind was definitely in the wrong when she took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to post her thoughts on the sensitive matter.
“Been sending strong prayers up for LA and everyone affected by the fires,” she posted to her 2.2 million followers on the platform. “This is heartbreaking. I pray to Jesus that God make it monsoon in LA.”
For context, a monsoon is a “seasonal change in the direction of the prevailing, or strongest, winds of a region that can cause wet and dry seasons as well as extreme flooding and damage infrastructure.”
Commenters quickly slammed the Rap diva for her choice of words – some even deeming them in poor taste for suggesting another natural disaster is the answer to the city’s current disaster.
Skyrocketing her name to trending status in just a day after the tweet was posted (January 14), Kim found herself the center of controversy, criticism, and conversation across Tik Tok, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and beyond.
And while she’s not issued a formal statement about the hoopla yet, she has turned comments off since becoming a trending topic herself.

I think she was only saying she wishes it would rain a lot to put the fires out. It’s silly to make a big deal out of her comments. I don’t blame her for disabling comments rather than respond to the nonsense.
