Rolling Stone: Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ Tops Adele, Drake, Rihanna, & Taylor Swift LPs to Be Crowned the GREATEST ALBUM of the 21st Century

Published: Friday 10th Jan 2025 by Rashad

Nearly 10 years after Beyonce poured ‘Lemonade‘ onto Billboard charts and history books is the critically and commercially acclaimed album STILL quenching the thirst of major music industry tastemakers.

Just ask the good folks over at ‘Rolling Stone’ who – like Billboard – are toasting the quarter-century mark by unveiling retrospective countdowns.

Owners of the most comprehensive “Greatest Albums Ever” list, ‘Rolling Stone’ updated their 500-entry long tally in January 2024 to rank Bey’s 2016-released effort, ‘Lemonade,’ the greatest female album released in the 21st century and its 2022-released follow-up, ‘Renaissance,’ the greatest female album of the 2020s.

Praised by her devoted fans (affectionately called the #Beyhive) at the time, the ranking certainly got tongues wagging as detractors believed there were better equipped projects to own the title (see: Mariah Carey‘s ‘Emancipation of Mimi,’ Adele‘s ’21,’ Christina Aguilera‘s ‘Stripped,’ Brandy‘s ‘Full Moon,’ Amy WineHouse‘s ‘Back to Black,’ etc.).

Those jeers were undoubtedly amplified on Friday (January 10) when ‘RS’ crowned the ‘Formation’-housing project the greatest album of the century overall in their latest comprehensive countdown.

“‘Lemonade’ has always been more than just an album. It’s a music film as layered, gorgeous, and haunting as a canonical drama, a matrix of generational heartbreak, a celebration of legacy, and a hand-drawn map to the intersections of many Black women’s interpersonal and political lives,” they wrote about the award-winning effort.

It isn’t the only Bey project to get shine on the illustrious list, however. 2024’s ‘Cowboy Carter‘ (#126), 2022’s ‘Renaissance‘ (#37), and 2013’s ‘Beyonce‘ (#16) all made the cut as well.

Snooze, everytime she starts to trail behind or fall off the charts that machine starts to kick in! Her career hasn’t been organic since the lemonade album!

    • yup! January 11, 2025

Has never been organic. Her father slithered his way into management of destinys child and they’ve been snaking ever since. And with that dangerous husband of hers…

  2. Eve Stan January 11, 2025

That album is demonic. No thank you.

  3. Lobo January 11, 2025

It look like she has a big machine behind her. Billboard is no longer reliable. Lemonade is okay album but not as good as 21 or Stripped.

  4. True Tea January 11, 2025

The album is as deep as a puddle of water. I’m so oppressed even though I win award after award after award after award.

  5. DaAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaa January 11, 2025

Beyonce I’m sorry but you are overrated af

These kid writers at Rolling Stone Age oughtta be sat down and taken through good music outputs 50’s onward. Or else, they’ll go on publishing such rubbish lists and stats while omitting musical pillars from every decade since Billboard started tallying record sales. I think streams should NO LONGER count towards sales; it’s messed things up and boosted mediocrity. Lemonade would have been TRULY impactful if Bey had left Jay-Z BEFORE the accompanying tour. Instead, she perpetuated his ugly DNA via more kids. Beyonce is a simp.

      FLOPmonade

I know not how much it sold, nor if its sales correlate with its quality; but, I haven’t liked anything she put out since her debut UNTIL Renaissance. Then, as soon as she had won me back, she goes and releases that country cosplay. We’ll see if RIII will be good pop.

You can tell by all those comments, y’all just jealous. Where are y’alls albums so we can hear…

    • TGJuicée January 11, 2025

Nobody can deny Bey reinvented (and rejuvenated) her ENTIRE career with Renaissance. Not one skippable track (even if Church Girl grates)! And this is coming from someone who winced at EVERYTHING she’d released post-debut. Lemonade can’t hold a candle to Renaissance because it would have made her more iconic if she’d made millions outta her revenge art and dumped that cheater. Oh well…

LMAO…She just can’t stand falling behind or losing. That chic is all about Quantity over Quality. When Taylor dominated with her 5 billion Eras tour, dominating the media, chart for an entire year, releasing a tour book, concert movie and a high profile relationship….that cowboy Ho paid billboard and other publications to crown her with this b*******…even digging up an old album of hers that was not that great to try and exalt herself above all females. She definitely has the industry machine behind her…and the fact that Rihanna’s Anti album released about 6 years ago is still on Billboard’s 200 charts after going number one 6 years ago and has never left the charts whereas Copyonce has had three albums release over that 6 years with none of them on the charts speaks to the lies and politics that this chic plays. Shes trash

      Is that what she does?

      Good to know 🙏

The main difference between Billboard and Rolling Stone list is that Billboard is based off success on the chart and album sales without an opinion. Meanwhile Rolling Stone list is the opinions and preference oh a lot of weird and dumb MFs.

      Word

    BOW DOWN B******

    • Lobo January 11, 2025

She bowed down to Pink and Taylor lol 😂
      She was outgrossed and defeated.

      • Bpleaseeeee January 11, 2025

Beyonce doesn’t have to bow down to Pink when the Renaissance tour average 10.3 million per show versus Pinkis 112, 000. She had to tour a year and a half and Bey only did 5 months.. congrats to pink but let’s not be delusional🤣

    Very deserving!

  12. Joel January 11, 2025

That was one of my least favorite albums from her. And I love Bey.
Her self titled album , bday, 4 , and Sasha Fierce were all better.

  13. Adele4ever January 12, 2025

What a joke. Lemonade was a boring a@@ album. Wasn’t even a masterpiece body of work.
