Universal Music SLAMS Drake’s “Illogical” Lawsuit: “We Invested Massively in HIS Music”

Drake drummed up headlines again today (January 15) when he withdrew his initial legal filing against Universal Music Group and Spotify – only to formally file a federal defamation lawsuit against the latter.

As reported, the MC claims the label is responsible for fueling ‘Not Like Us’Kendrick Lamar‘s diss track aimed at him. With his latest filing, he’s taking particular umbrage with the lyrics that deem him a “p*dophile.”

Now, the industry giant has hit back – and hit back thunderously.

Full story below…

Moments ago, UMG issued the following statement:

“Not only are these claims untrue, but the notion that we would seek to harm the reputation of any artist — let alone Drake — is illogical. We have invested massively in his music and our employees around the world have worked tirelessly for many years to help him achieve historic commercial and personal financial success.

Throughout his career, Drake has intentionally and successfully used UMG to distribute his music and poetry to engage in conventionally outrageous back-and-forth ‘rap battles’ to express his feelings about other artists. He now seeks to weaponize the legal process to silence an artist’s creative expression and to seek damages from UMG for distributing that artist’s music. We have not and do not engage in defamation — against any individual.

At the same time, we will vigorously defend this litigation to protect our people and our reputation, as well as any artist who might directly or indirectly become a frivolous litigation target for having done nothing more that write a song.”

With that, what are…

As much as I don’t like Drakeisha, he never struck me as dumb so idk why he’s pushing this so much. Maybe he’s trying to get his deal terminated?

Kendrick exposed some of Drake. This lawsuit will expose all of Drake. Because UMG will bring receipts.

This will definitely impact his future. He should have just let it go, he better tread lightly

You are right about that…don’t burn the hand that helps to feed you. Other labels could stray away from him, if his label dropped him

        He could do movies.

        The Joker, for example.

He’s got the lips for it.

Respect and honor our Kings. I love Drake for this.

Drake’s a prober whose industry cousins help make a commercial winner.

Ken’s a wordsmith and the ONLY rapper who’s a Pulitzer winner (Chew on that, GoatYe!)

UMG will fund black beefs and may the best ninja win. Not its fault Drake came with a knife to a nuclear war.
