And while one of her more recent examples centers on ‘Level Up,’ the performer has revealed that she had to engage in unorthodox tactics to ignite ‘Promise’ too.
Revealing that an executive at the major label she was signed to deemed the Polow Da Don production “the worst R&B record,” the 39-year-old opened up about leaking it to prove a point.
She told the publication:
“We leaked it at an Atlanta radio station and literally the song took off and was a monster. ended up having my first No. 1 album [with ‘Ciara: The Evolution’]. And that week was a big week — it was me, Gwen Stefani, Eminem, everyone.”

‘Promise’ is unquestionably one of the most exquisite modern R&B offerings. So, the moral of the matter: sometimes it’s imperative to bet on yourself!
