In a recent interview with The Standard, the GRAMMY-nominated star addressed the backlash she received from some Nigerian fans after openly embracing her queer supporters in Brazil.
During her visit, fans proudly coined the term ‘Sabigays’ inspired by her ‘Sabi Girl’ nickname. Ayra was all for it calling it:
“The most iconic thing to ever exist from a Nigerian artist.”
Despite Nigeria’s strict anti-LGBTQ+ laws, Ayra is committed to showing love and support, she shared:
“My culture is very different and they have a different mindset. I’ve always been a maverick and I’ve always had a mind of my own to think how I want to think. I support who I want to support; nothing can change that.”
Unapologetic and fearless, Ayra continues to stand for inclusivity, proving that her fan base isn’t just a community, it’s a movement.
