Normani may have amassed a respectable sum of hits of her own, but a songwriter has revealed that she let one slip through her fingers.

For, it has been revealed that the stage blazer passed on Doechii’s 2023 hit ‘What It Is.’

Full story below…

In a live chat, songwriter Blush revealed that she and producer J White Did It initially crafted the uptempo for Normani as part of a collection of tracks.

Despite the pair being certain that it was a hit, the ‘Wild Side’ performer didn’t believe it was ideal for her “vision.”

Blush shared:

“We played it for the label and Normani, and she didn’t think that it was something that fit her vision. I respected that it is her artistry, it is her choice and it is her vision.”

While hits being passed around before finding an eventual match is a tale as old as time, this scenario is certainly food for thought.

In one regard, it’s admirable for an artist to have such definitive creative conviction.

On the other hand, a smash is a smash. And an earworm like ‘What It Is’ most definitely plays like a smash on first listen. Furthermore, a hit of this ilk typically serves as the vehicle for even more success.

So, when placed in the context of how and where things are with Normani’s debut album ‘Dopamine’ (which was a strong offering), it again is… food for thought.

Makes sense. I always felt like that song sounded like Normani. She needs to fire every last person for allowing her to miss that opportunity, wow! She was silly for that one.

Ummm do u actually know this song? I can’t see Normani singing this unless the lyrics had a major overhaul.
