Dolly Parton may be hot on the promo trail in support of her single-serve frozen meals with Conagra brands, but that hasn’t stopped the Country Queen from re-heating praise for Beyonce‘s fiery remake of the 1973 classic ‘Jolene.’
Chatting it up with ‘People‘ magazine recently, Parton doubled down on her elation about Bey giving the iconic tune a 2024 facelift.
“I’m a huge fan of hers — I mean, who’s not? Everybody loves her,” Dolly gushed. “I think she’s a magnificent artist, beautiful and the dancing in addition to the singing.”
A guest on two ‘Cowboy Carter‘ tracks (‘Tyrant‘ and ‘Jolene’), the 79-year-old relayed she was “honored” to be featured on a “really, really good album.”
“I was just honored that she, of course, did a completely different take on ‘Jolene’ than than my version of it,” Parton told ‘People.’ “Hers was more like, ‘Well, you’re not getting him, you’re not taking him, you’re going to go through me to get him.’ Mine was more like, ‘Please don’t take him!’ So I loved her interpretation.”
Later in the chat, the Country Queen reiterated how proud she was of the updated take.
“As a writer, you like to hear how different people interpret your songs, and how they put their own spin and do their own take on it. But I was very proud of it, and I hope her tour does great, and I’m sure it will. People seem to be loving it,” said Dolly.
‘Jolene’ is one of many ‘Carter’ favorites getting the live treatment aboard Bey’s history-making ‘Cowboy Carter World Tour.’
