Mariah Carey may currently hold the record most Billboard #1 hits among female artists and even for most album sales among women in the history of American music, but – let music executive Larry Jackson tell it – there’s one artist who she may pale in comparison to: Taylor Swift.

As reported here, Jackson recently made headlines for signing Carey to a groundbreaking, multi-album deal aboard his Gamma imprint.
Shortly after the ink dried, Larry took to ‘Popcast‘ – the popular ‘New York Times‘ podcast – to dish on the partnership and praise Mariah for joining the label family.
“We just signed Mariah Carey…she’s such an important signing. We’re dealing with an artist who I think is – next to Taylor [Swift] – the most important female artist of our time,” he said to the hosts before running down Carey’s accomplishments as a singer and songwriter. “You’re dealing with an artist who is second to The Beatles in terms of #1s on the Hot 100…of all time. The Beatles have 20, she has 20. She is a brilliant artist, and I am so honored to be in partnership with her now.”
Although commenters were quick to scoff at the Swift/Carey comparison, some praised Larry for his seeming commitment to ensuring the Songbird Supreme’s catalog gets its just due and remain in her ownership.

The news comes as Carey’s fans – affectionately called #Lambs – brace themselves for the long-awaited release of her yet-titled 16th studio album.

Honestly I feel like he kept putting her number 2 with everything he mentioned lol does he not know that Mariah is the queen and will have his head? Has he not read the room?

After all of Tommy Motollas accomplishments , Mariah still feels underrated as an artist. Most of her hits are forgettable and most regular people don’t place her in their top 5’s. She was smart to rebrand as a Queen of Christmas. Her annoying “diva” antics don’t help matters much either. 😜
Mariah has good catchy music that lasts but the public doesn’t seem to enjoy all of her like they do Taylor Swift and others. Her performances are horrible and her princess act is just strange and annoying. For those reasons alone she isn’t as important as he’s trying to portray her to be.
