K. Michelle has long made it apparent that she says it how she feels it.

And an interviewer learned this during a recent sit-down.

The star, who has been hard at work on her long-awaited Country album, sat down with American Songwriter to discuss her foray into a genre she says was her first love.

Things took an interesting turn when the host, while asking her about her motivations, quipped, “You didn’t grow up here in Country music.”

Full story below…

Without hesitation, K. Michelle clapped back with:

“I did grow up in Country music. You do this all the time. I am from Memphis, Tennessee. I got a scholarship for yodelling. That’s how I paid for college. My start…to you…has been when the Judds’ people reached out to me to go and pay Naomi Judd tribute. That was the first tape I ever got. And that was ‘Love Can Build A Bridge.’ And it’s always been a thing for me. I was told I could not sing Country because I was black, but it was something I had always been doing and will continue to do. I am born and raised in Tesesse. I didn’t fly here, I grew here.”

She didn’t even apologize, didn’t flinch or felt a thing. What the f was that? How are you interviewing an artist and don’t know the basics about her. 🤮
