Self-proclaimed “Swamp princess” Doechii has sparked a royal debate thanks to quotes lifted from her recent appearance in ‘British Vogue.’
As reported here, Doe dazzled the cover and pages of ‘British Vogue’ for its August 2025 issue.
Between sizzling snaps rocking Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, Dior, and other designer duds, however, the GRAMMY-winning rapstress weighed in on her next album, rise to fame, and overall status of the industry.
While discussing the latter topic, Doe (born Jaylah Hickmon) revealed she doesn’t believe a true superstar has yet to emerge in this generation.
“We don’t really have a superstar of this generation just yet, because there hasn’t been enough time,” she told ‘British Vogue.’ “When I look at pop culture right now, I’m just trying to figure out, ‘OK, what does a Doechii superstar look like? What does it take to make that?’ I have no clue.”
The commentary sparked quite the social media debate, igniting many stan groups to point to their faves like as Chloe Bailey, Tyla, GloRilla, Sabrina Carpenter, Cardi B, Normani, Doja Cat, Chappell Roan, and Megan Thee Stallion as refutation of Doechii’s argument.
And though the conversation rages on, Hickmon has yet to make a public statement regarding the hoopla.

True datt!! ✅
Industry plant told no lieş
Define generation. A MJ or a Beyoncé don’t come around very often.
Taylor is big but not in every market. Same for Ariana.
The difference also being that with the internet, people have a much wider offer. It doesn’t focus to a reduced group of “artists” anymore.
Plus people are more focused on trends and cashing in money than actual artistry.
Someone should have told her that to be a superstar means bringing something fresh and new to table.
You can get inspired by the greats or other artists but having every single as a copy of someone else’s style, voice, sound, lyrics, production it’s just means you’re a fkn copy cat.
The bich heavily copied Azealia Banks, Missy Elliott, Doja Cat, Grace Jones, Kendrick Lamar and the last one is M.I.A.
The bich is acting like an A.I and doesn’t pay the price for that because she’s a plant ☘️ instead she’s been giving a Grammy 😂 because there’s no Superstars or great Art in her categories when she’s putting out her A.I poop 💩
At least she can acknowledge the truth.
Clout replaced talent. Death of the superstar
THIS COMMENT!
So true 👍
Exactly.
There’s no Superstars today
No MJ
No Madonna
No Prince
No Whitney Houston
No Mariah Carey
No Beyonce
No Britney Spears
No Christina Aguilera
No Missy Elliott
The last superstars are probably
Lady Gaga
Amy Winehouse
Adele
And on the lower level You can find the ones who can make big money but their music is not really crossing over out of their fan base and that their artistic quality is not exceptional and legendary:
Taylor Swift
Ariana Grande
Drake
The weekend
*Ariana at least has a good voice though.
You forgot to mention Rihanna. Love her or hate her she is a superstar.
@Kiki you right lol and Janet Jackson
Facts
Stfu.. u dumbfark
Boring gosip again.. next?!! 😫
This I agree with
Tyla appears to be inching towards becoming one. But for right now I’d say Taylor Swift is the superstar of this generation, despite technically not from this generation.
Taylor Swift came out in 2005 it’s been 20 yrs wtf r u talking about
I’m talking about the demographics of her audience.
Michael Jackson was out for 20 years before he became a superstar…
All the stan groups are stupid. Doechii is right. They have no superstars because time is one of the many elements needed to produce superstardom. Beyonce is still the most recent. As much as I love Doja and some of them, they are still on the ascent…
This generation Stan’s influencers, streamers and rappers baby mamas. Those are their superstars.
I completely agree with Doechii. If anyone today comes close to superstar status, it’s Doja Cat—but even that feels different from what we used to see. A huge part of the issue is the absence of platforms like TRL and 106 & Park, which once served as cultural launchpads, turning rising stars into full-blown superstars.
It’s also about the quality and consistency of talent. Many of today’s artists haven’t reached the benchmark set by the icons of the past. We’ve seen this happen before in fashion—with the decline of the “supermodel.” Names like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, and Tyson Beckford dominated an era. After them, we had another wave—Gigi Hadid, Gisele Bündchen, Joan Smalls—but even that seems to have faded. Today, no one is emerging at that same level.
It’s the same across music and film. The “X factor” still exists, but the industry doesn’t seem to cultivate or elevate it in the same way. We’re watching the slow fade of the superstar era—and honestly, it’s not surprising anymore.
Gisele Bündchen was the last super model.
Gigi didn’t have the body or walk just an interesting face and a rich family as a platform, and her sister doesn’t count either, nothing is natural about her plastic face.
Don’t compare real superstars with fake ones.
THIS IS THE PARTICIPATION TROPHY GENERATION ; THEY DONT WANT SUPERSTARS !
This generation doesnt know how to make music! Thats why..
There’s been plenty of time just not enough talent. Chloe isn’t going to cut it.
