Lizzo is weighing on the modern music landscape – and she’s not holding back.
Blasting the “algorithms” that she feels have made the industry a “shambles,” the chart-topper seized the release of her deluxe mixtape, ‘My Face Still Hurts From Smiling,’ to unpack her thoughts on today’s music scene.
Full story below…
Angled as advice
“The music industry is in a shambles, and you can use that to your advantage.
I dropped a mixtape over the summer and had SZA and Doja Cat on it. And I just dropped the deluxe today. And yet, there are still people who don’t know I dropped music.”
Continuing, she added:
“Everyone is saying that there is no song of the summer. I’m going to be honest with you guys: it’s not because the music is not incredible. It’s because the way the algorithm is set up, no one can serve the masses anymore. This industry used to be based on serving the masses; it wasn’t so congested. There was a clear channel back in the day for major artists to put their music out and serve the masses. Now, you have to serve your people.”

Lizzo said what I’ve been trying to say for a long time.
Artists of today can’t be as famous as artists from the 90s and early to mid-20s, like Beyoncé, Whitney, Celine etc. Your album could sell 20k and a single chart at #90 and a larger percentage of the world would know it.… pic.twitter.com/HbFW82q2Ac

Interesting.
Granted, some will undoubtedly dismiss Lizzo’s words as little more than a veiled justification for so-so sales of late, but yours truly feels she touches on a number of insightful, pertinent points.
With that, do you agree with Lizzo?

People don’t want to listen to music by someone who walks around looking like a man’s saggy foreskin. Plus, the music is 🗑️
I know insults about foreskin can’t be coming from an obese woman calling herself baby girl. Please have a seat at the back of the room.
Babe, your mum is the obese one. Chowing down on chicken still waiting for your dad to come home from the shops 19 years later. I’m sitting pretty. Cry about it
Ok here we go again… @babygurl is some random TGJ staff trolling… probably some 40s Black gay man who is trying to be an Indian woman this time….. let me educate you guys, for those who have profile pics, 95 of them are either staffs or trolls.
Lizzo, people know they either dont vibe with it or don’t care. I heard some of the new music and it’s unimpressive. 2025 has been a horrible year for music.
There’s actually more music dropping than ever, and a lot of it is good. You just have to do more digging to get exposed to it.
Because she’s too busy trying to be a s** symbol and talking about her weight. Nobody asked for that and it’s not what made her popular.
Babe, you have for the last 5 to 10 years made your career about being fat, and not about music. We watching for your weight loss at this point. We forgot you even made music. You did it to yourself.
Lol, remember when you tried to gain Islamonazi followers by becoming an Islamonazi sympathizer?
It didn’t work out, send them your s as food aid, it can last them for years.
Coz yo music sucks ass!!!! We need more bops like juice and about damn time, not these craps
People don’t even know there’s a singer called Lizzo lol
These days anyone can upload their songs to streaming platforms, so yeah—way more competition and way more stuff for listeners to choose from.
With so much out there, you either stand out by doing something with soul and quality, or you just get lost in the noise.
Not sure if that’s sad or fair, but hey… that’s the game.
Honey, people know but nobody cares about you anymore.
