In a new Substack post, the GRAMMY winner revealed she was suicidal in late 2023, battling severe depression as the world turned on her amid the explosive lawsuit filed by three former dancers. Isolated, mistrusting, and grieving years of toxic relationships after her father’s passing, Lizzo says she reached a breaking point.
She wrote:
“I became deeply suicidal. I cut off all my loved ones. I couldn’t trust anyone because during the scandal, former close colleagues and friends (who I’d been on pleasant or neutral terms with), started to come out and make things up about me. God knows why.”
She clarifies that her weight loss was never about chasing thinness. In her words, she said:
“I don’t even think it’s possible for me to be considered actually ‘thin’. I will always have the stretch, and the skin of a woman who carries great weight. And I’m proud of that. Even when the world doesn’t want me to be.”
The Houston native added that she’s learned to love herself through every transition, joking that losing weight was her way of trolling every fat joke ever made. She said:
“I was self-aware that I was the butt of every fat joke on the Internet. And yet I continued to be who I am, because it’s the only thing I know how to be.”
And now, Lizzo says she’s finally learning to heal on her own terms, and the journey wasn’t about weight at all but about finally choosing herself.

Bye Fat Ho! Everyone has struggle and you are not the only one. You are flopping. no one is listening to your b**** ass whining.
