Nelly is letting the courts know he’s not the one to play with.
The rapper superstar is demanding more than $78,000 in legal fees from the attorney behind what a federal judge deems a completely “frivolous” lawsuit over ‘Country Grammar.’
Full story below…
The suit, pushed forward by former St. Lunatics member Ali, accused Nelly of cutting his old crew out of royalties and credit.
But after three members quickly distanced themselves from the filing, and with the statute of limitations long expired, the judge ruled the case never should have made it past day one.
Now Nelly’s legal team says Ali’s lawyer, Precious Felder Gates, should foot the bill for the 142 hours spent shutting the case down.
However, Felder Gates argues the sanctions are unfair, stating to Billboard that she:
“acted with honest conviction that our client’s claims merited judicial consideration.”
All in all, the message is loud and clear: hit a superstar with a weak lawsuit and you might end up paying the price.
