During her interview on The Breakfast Club, the singer and reality TV star spoke in depth about her visual album, ‘Heartbreak Retrograde, which she described as a deeply personal and therapeutic project inspired by a past relationship in which she admits she cheated.

Tamar shared that the body of work is rooted in accountability and emotional growth, confronting the pain she caused rather than deflecting from it.

She spilled:

“This is a time where I can evolve. I can be myself and figure out things that will best suit me in the future. And I feel like I want to say this, you know, Heartbreak Retrograde was born here.”

Beyond the music, Tamar addressed long-standing comparisons to her sister, music icon Toni Braxton.

She admitted that being constantly measured against Toni has been discouraging, emphasizing that while they share blood, their artistry is entirely different.

“I think that sometimes people put me in the box of the shadow of Tony Braxton. And that’s disheartening for me because we are two totally different people and artists.”

Tamar also clarified her decision to publicly support Birdman during Verzuz, noting that her presence was rooted in loyalty, not controversy.

She described Birdman as a close friend and brother-in-law, reinforcing that her support came from family ties rather than romantic narratives.

Tamar should be co-host there. Slyly turns the mic onto the interviewer. 😄 She’s fun & cool sans her sisters. She rubbed in their faces her creating a show to employ them, her rich marriage, and breakout success; but, THEY have been ruining her reputation since the R&B miracle that was Love & War for a then-36-year-old. Now word is production companies don’t wanna work with her unsuccessful sisters. There’s no show without Tay, that’s for sure. I just want her to go a Pop&B route, as she’s blessed with a girlish voice.

Sorry Tamar but you need to stop comparing with the legendary Toni Braxton. This is like Solange is coming for Beyonce. Leave Birman alone since she only F old Rich White men

Hi Ling Ling, she tired of others comparing her to her sister. In fairness, Toni had a big budget black machine behind her for 10+ years, while Tamar was on Dreamworks, a new white label whose big budget went to soundtracks of its own movies. And while Toni is mumbling- pioneering buttery excellence, Tamar is more dynamic vocally: cavernous lows for a high Soprano; round, punchy mids; and ringy, bell-like highs (plus, that whistle-like super head!) Tamar lacked artist development Toni enjoyed.
