The Weeknd is making a major power move behind the scenes.

The global superstar has quietly closed a landmark catalog partnership with Lyric Capital Group, a deal widely reported to be valued in the $1 billion range and already being described as a game changer for artist ownership.

Rather than a traditional catalog sale, the arrangement positions the Toronto native as both a creative driver and ongoing stakeholder in his body of work.

Crucially, the partnership covers the singer’s music catalog from inception through 2025, while keeping full creative control firmly in his hands.

Per Variety, Sources confirm the joint venture allows the singer, born Abel Tesfaye, and his team to retain ownership and decision-making power across both publishing and master recordings.

Representatives stressed the agreement was intentionally designed to avoid the typical sell-off model dominating the industry.

“From the beginning, it was clear Abel would not sell his catalog. This unique structure sets a new standard for artist equity and control.”

The deal does not include future releases and leaves his existing label and publishing relationships intact. While no figures were officially confirmed, industry reports suggest the valuation rivals the largest single artist catalog deals in history.

With over 120 million monthly Spotify listeners and a tour that recently crossed $1 billion, the timing reaffirms his unmatched commercial leverage.
