Tameka Foster is clearing the air after revealing she was briefly arrested over what she calls a “petty” car insurance issue.

Speaking candidly on her Instagram live, Usher’s ex-wife explained that she was pulled over last summer for a lapse in insurance on her company car, a problem she quickly fixed. What she didn’t realize was that the ticket required an in-person court appearance, she told her followers:

“I was driving down Peachtree on my way home. And, all of a sudden, I saw an officer just driving behind me. You know, they just driving while black kind of thing. I hadn’t done shit. I wasn’t speeding. I didn’t make an illegal turn or nothing. So, I got pulled over. It was just like license registration. No problem. Gave him all the stuff. Then, he said, well, do you know? It shows that your insurance is not current. I said, well, I didn’t know that. But, no problem. I can fix it. You know, whatever. I’ll fix it tomorrow. When they open. Did that. But, what I didn’t know is that when you get a ticket for not having insurance, you have to actually go in person to court to tell the judge that you got insurance.”

After failing to show up, a warrant was issued, leading to a dramatic arrest when officers boarded her plane after a trip. Foster says:

“They came to my actual aircraft, paged my name on the loudspeaker… So, my heart stopped like, oh, my God, what are they going to say? I definitely didn’t think they were going to say. I, Tamika Foster Raymond, had a warrant for failing to appear.”

She was also subjected to what she described as unnecessary hostility from staff despite her fine being paid.

Reflecting on the experience, she urged her followers to:

“handle your business, stay on point, make sure all your i’s a dotted and t’s are crossed.”
