Exclusive: Kelly Rowland & Method Man Dish on New Movie ‘Relationship Goals’

Published: Tuesday 3rd Feb 2026 by Sam

Kelly Rowland and Method Man sit down with That Grape Juice to discuss their upcoming movie, ‘Relationship Goals,’ becoming a team player, and their favourite Rom-Coms.

The two musical icons unite for the feel-good romantic comedy, which arrives just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Inspired by the New York Times Best-Selling Novel by Michael Todd, ‘Relationship Goals’ follows TV producer Leah Caldwell (Rowland), who is about to make history as the first woman to run New York’s top morning show.  Her ex Jarrett Roy (Method Man) throws a spanner in the works as he swoops in to compete for the same position.

The movie depicts a compelling portrait of the challenges of dating and romance in the modern age, whilst also delving into themes of faith, grief, and breaking through the glass ceiling.

The film is set to be released on February 4 on Amazon Prime Video.

Watch the EXCLUSIVE interview above and head below for more.

That Grape Juice: How did you resonate with the themes of this movie and how did this help you connect with your characters?

Kelly Rowland: I found myself in Leah, period. I felt like this space in which she has all this control, she’s the boss and the showrunner. And then to have these reins taken away from her to be in competition with someone else, especially somebody she’s had a past with, makes her feel a bit out of control so you just watch her slowly unravel. She is having to really find her footing in this new space. I have been in this space, I’ve been in control and I have to learn to let go.

Method Man: The thing for me is that I tend to live vicariously through characters which I watch on television or in movies and I root for them. With that knowledge, that is how I approach my character. What would be a genuine reaction from every male in a female-dominated movie or female-dominated workplace?

So, I used to live vicariously through characters which I’ve seen before. But now, it’s the other way; these men are looking vicariously through me and hoping I make the right decisions when I approach a scene or when I’m dealing with the Leah problem and solution. We navigated the hell through this movie. We had great templates to start off with, a great chemistry read, a great director and producers who believed in this project and that’s all you can ask for in this business, especially when doing something that you believe in.

That Grape Juice: Clifford, you sang a great rendition of Boyz II Men’s ‘End Of The Road’… Talk me through this scene. Did you choose the song?

Method Man: Brother, you don’t choose the song. The song chooses you, do you understand me? But no, to answer your question, I didn’t choose the songs but they fit perfectly. They pay a lot of people good money to come up with this stuff, so they better do a good job.

That Grape Juice: Early in the movie, Leah gets accused of not being a team player. In your respective music careers and groups with Destiny’s Child and Wu-Tang Clan, what worked to bring the best out of you in a collaborative setting?

Kelly Rowland: It can be anything. Talking about it, whatever it is you want to collaborate on and hashing out ideas. All of that, especially when dealing with different people, is communication.

That Grape Juice: As it’s leading up to Valentine’s Day, do you have a favourite Rom-Com?

Kelly Rowland: It’s not for Valentine’s Day, but I could watch ‘Boomerang’ every day. I just can, I love it.

Method Man: And I’m going with Claudine, again. It’s a classic!
