The Rap superstar addressed the controversy during an appearance on the Katie Miller podcast, where she explained that her endorsement came after direct conversations and personal reassurance from Trump himself.

The comments arrive after many of her fans, particularly those within the LGBTQ community, expressed feeling targeted by the current political climate and questioned Minaj’s recent right-wing affiliations.
Those affiliations have included public declarations of admiration for Trump and a high-profile appearance alongside conservative commentator Erika Kirk.
Addressing those concerns head-on, the Queens native stressed that her decision was rooted in accountability to her fan base.
“I asked him a few questions, because with me, everything I do, I have to take account for my fan base.
I asked him if he had a problem with the LGBT community. I asked him if he had a problem with the Jewish community. And I asked him about women’s rights.
He gave me wonderful answers to all of them, to where I knew that he respected me and he respected my fan base. It was very easy to talk to.”

Minaj’s words come on the heels of a divided response to her antics. For, while she has found favor from the likes of Amber Rose, others – such as Billy Porter – have been less than endorsing.
