‘Who’s That Girl‘ rapper Eve may have questioned Iggy Azalea’s authenticity in the past, but it would seem this year has seen her come to understand the entertainer far better than she did before.
For, during an interview to promote their brand new movie, Eve and R&B singer Jill Scott were quizzed on the rapper, and broke down why they believe so many haven’t been able to applaud her success in 2014.
Their words below…
Eve shared:
She’s representing a group of girls right now as well. I think people right now are too quick to give too many accolades to new people. That’s the one thing I just can’t stand. Let her do her thing. It’s not my cup of tea but she’s representing for somebody.
“The ‘blaccent.’ Is that horrible? A lot of people gonna get mad at that, say what you want, but fuck it. I’m saying it in a sense that, she’s from a different place. I’ve said this before, It would be dope to hear her with her swag. What are you, who are you and what is that? That’s the only reason I say that. [Australians] are so dope. That’s my only thing.”
Jill added:
It’s a little challenging for me, because I come from the era that she pulled from. To me, it’s a mixture of Da Brat and Eve. That’s what it sounds like to me, so that’s a little challenging for me. But I’m a mixture of Sarah Vaughan and five other things so for somebody else that comes from that era, they’d be like ‘You aight.’ so that has been the only thing that stops me, is that I know where that comes from. It sounds like a big bite to me.
Jill’s remarks come after Azalea was accused of stealing her stage name from ‘Luxury’ rapper Azealia Banks while developing her act, and after she became the first female rapper of Australian descent to top the Billboard Hot 100 with the single ‘Fancy.’
Iggy also pulled in 6+ million dollars between her singles not to mention any endorsements and her tour coins she recouped. Her album is practically gold. What other female rapper besides ms minaj is doing that? I like all music LET HER LIVE. I mean lets at least see what her sophomore era is like before we brand her. Remember we know HER name…not the other way around…
No one is stopping Iggy from making her coins, or putting forth her best effort.
She is living. But, people have a right to critique her, just like everyone gets judged in entertainment(or real life).
Knowing her name doesn’t mean she is above reproach.
We also know Charles Manson, and Adolph Hitler’s names, so…
Say that s*** Mcgee! Her being who she is does not make her untouchable. She “IS” in a lane where she will definitely be judged, whether it’s her writing her own music or her being the actual person she raps about. People fail to realize, this is hip hop! The “RAP INDUSTRY”. They take s*** this craft serious. I would say some other s*** because it really goes deep than what a lot of you are commenting about. She say hip hop/rap was her calling and how she related to it, etc. Then “people” need to accept the fact that she will be critiqued. She’s not the first female rap artist to be and she won’t be the last.
Iggy is an ok rapper, but what puts her over the top is that she’s white. Her music is watered down just enough to play on Pop stations as opposed to rap stations and she’s white. I’m not hating on her. It was a great business move by T.I. and I wish her well.
what is almost Gold? that album is out for almost a year and have not seen Gold yet lol and ain’t no one stopping Iggy from making her coints *tamar voice*
Im so glad that you pointed out that Iggy stole Bank’s name so many people overlook that, this is what AB meant by smudging and AB never really brings that up herself cos she knows people would say she’s reaching but its true
Azalea comes from the road Iggy Azalea is from and IGGY was the name of her dog. Get your facts straight!
So basically she named herself after her dog and street…..that is weakkkk and she didnt have to…she did it on purpose to smudge….and use the street name as a scapegoat
Thats what strippers do people… Its an old tradition to have your stripper name be the street you grew up on and your childhood pet.
I remember it since Pamela Anderson spoke about it back in the day.
Azalea Street is the street Iggy grew up on. She didn’t steal it from that other girl. I’m tired of people talking without doing their research.
So, she named herself after a dog? Hmm…
Basically, authenticity breeds longevity, and gimmicks, are a flash in a pan.
I agree with Eve, if Iggy rapped in her own voice/dialect, it would add some credibility to her as an artist.
#Mockingbird
Who is to say Iggy doesn’t actually sound like that when she raps? To me this was her sound before fame…. The only thing that has changed is her flow.
Have you heard her speak?? That does not reconcile with that, ‘blaccent’ on her records.
I explore you to use common sense, and spell check, before you reply.. And, I thank you..
*implore
Auto correct is often not. Lol.
Get a life and stop looking too deep into it. You’re trying too hard.
Your the one trying to hard to say anything that means something.
I wish sometimes, I could be as insipid, as certain commentators like yourself, and miss the obvious.
Life would be simpler, I suppose.
My life is very full, which is why, I am not perched on this site, everyday, unlike you.
#Toodles
I like Iggy Azaela style & heck her music sells to me & I’m here for it & Congrats~>Everyone so B*** hurt that she’s here? GET OVER IT!!
No one is b*** hurt, but her with her Twitter thesis’s, every time someone has a critique.
She seems very defense, and thin skinned, about any feedback..
Iggy is whack, and so is AB. But AB can rap circles around Iggy. She’s trash, pure trash. At least she introduced hip hop to these white girls who listen to Rita Whora, Cheryl Coal, and Tyler Swift.
Why are you so bitter?
Oops sorry I take it all back I’m just a dumb racist b**** who hates on everybody coa I’m a sad fat loser with no friends.
Yes!!!! I’m a dumb racist bish with no avatar! Try again troll. Lmfao!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀
Everyone needs to let that Iggy thing go. These artists act like they don’t use other cultures in their music like Azealia Banks and Teyana Taylor came out with albums that incorporated them singing in spanish sure they gave you a balance but is it right to throw stones at a new artist who hasn’t even shown all their potential yet? Yes the accolades of blogs, magazines giving her huge titles to her name is unfair. The only thing Iggy should be winning is for ‘”Fancy” not the album. Anyways though she does sound like Da Brat a little bit with the word play but really sounds like Charli Baltimore.

one thing about eve I don’t like in her interview is that she don’t go straight to d point!!! like what’s her point? in this always saying “not my cup of tea”!!! this is d same that she did to Nicki minaj , after criticizing Nicki she came back and started acting fake like she likes nicki!!! All this old female rappers should learn how to mind their stuffs and stop commenting and coming off as foolsZ! in d first place!
Look at Missy Elliott tweets, when she tweets its like she’s trying to shade upcoming rappers by repeating the same stuff like I’m legend, I’m classic, be yourself don’t copy me!! like seriously? pls this watched up people should learn to say ‘no comments’ when they don’t have nice things to say!!
Yes I agree Missy was talking the other day about hearing things on the radio that all sound the same if she were just a music critic that would make more sense but as an artist you have to have a level of professionalism
Why is everybody so mad at Iggy? I’m not a fan, but she doesn’t bother me either. She’s a pop rapper. Won’t be the first & won’t be the last….stop with the selective outrage!!
Why do people like you want to give her a free pass? every celeb gets criticism why is she any different?
Exactly!! This website alone, we all shade everyone, under the sun.
The idea, Iggy is some how exempt, is ridiculous.
I don’t see Rih, Bey, Ciara, Nicki, etc, addressing, every judgment, people have about them.
I like ‘Fancy’ for a dance track, but Iggy, is weak as phuck. Always crying.
#BooHooBitch
It’s different because people are only takling $hit about her because she is WHITE!
That’s not true. People are talking about her because she uses a phoney accent, and is mediocre, at best.
I don’t like Rita or Nicki either! My preference and criticism, has nothing to do with race, just substance..
I think that applies to most everyone, but that is definitely, the case for me, luv..
OMG, Sam Smith is paying up for “Stay With Me” (settled out of court w/Tom Petty for 25% royalties and co-writing credits; admits to similarities w/ “Won’t Back Down”). Can’t believe there’s no post on this.
No one raps or sings like they talk. This is so stupid. Listen to Celine Dion. She doesn’t sing how she talks. She had a strong accent but sounds like she is from America when she sings. Rihanna only sounds like her accent when she says something repeatedly. No one says anything to eminem or mgk. I bet if she was grungy and not high fashion she wouldn’t get the backlash. Haters all around
shut up, none of the people you used to prove your point sound any different on their tracks then they do in any of their interviews. “No one says anything to eminem or mgk.” maybe because they actually have talent.. ever thought of that?
Please jump of a bridge and land on a highway you TROLL no one will miss you apart from your stinky momma whos p**** you lick out and daddy’s c*** that you love to gag on BUT apart from that no one will miss you at all!
^^^^^^ WOW^^^^^
Syncing is different from rapping
Rap is done in your natural voice because you’re saying words, unloke singing you must use a different breath therefore in order to sing your accent sometimes changes accents are psychological

Not here for Iggy or any of his gimmicks tbh.
I think it’s so funny to see these old rap chicks speaking on Iggy. BE CLEAR: Iggy is the ONLY girl who wasn’t scared to jump out there and compete with Nicki… Wether she’s better or not, that ALONE is commendable. Iggy & Nicki are the ONLY girls popping right now. Give her her props on that.
Like I mentioned above, her being who she is does not make her untouchable.
I know one thing, if Iggy wins a Grammy for best Hip-hop album. She better log her ass off Twitter for a week or possibly a whole month ! Cause the drag she will endure will have her on suicidal watch. I mean here, Twitter and ect social media outlets are gonna come for her lol (memes). And if she thought she has faced all the heat she has yet to face hell from all of this.
The self-drag will be on ppl attacking her for winning an award.
An award she is , nott worthy of. Personally I don’t care for the Grammys, cause they have snubbed and overlooked many artists. But that’s alright cause Iggy album won’t see longevity among hip-hop’s critically acclaimed albums.the culture itself and community are not rockin’ with her. at this point nobody gives a damn about an award. Biggie, Tupac, Snoop, Easy E, Nate Dogg, and Public Enemy never received a Grammy but that didn’t take anything away from their legacy of today. She can have that award for all we care, she’s the one self drag cause she doesn’t have a tuff skin and has to respond to every damn thing. Like girl ignore if your truly winning.
I don’t get it, one white rapper has the whole industry shook. What’s ironic is that Eminem is the most commercial rapper of all time and no one cares to call out his skin color but that’s all we here about Iggy. I agree that the blogs and magazines have given her titles she didn’t earn yet, but that’s not her fault. Iggy isn’t the best rapper, but she has some good songs. She has an audience, so the criticism from ppl who don’t like her doesn’t matter. Lol, you don’t see white artist complaining about Michael Jackson taking their genre places they never could!
Oh look someone is pulling the race card, how original..
Yet her race is the entire basis for ppl bashing her, hence them saying she’s stealing from black culture. Think before you try to come for any of my comments.
Maybe you should think before you pull the race card. no one is mad that she is white that are questioning her authenticity.
What are you talking about Darkies pull the race card ALL the time.
I always said that Uggly sounded like Eve. Eve never get her dues, she was more mainstream and had more hits than Kim. Peo say Nicki is doing it, but Nicki isn’t doing one thing that Eve haven’t done. Music, Pop hits, tv show, clothes line, movies, eve been did that.
Yea, you right. I said the same thing on Eve not getting her props. I guess that’s the time we live in now.
Because Kim dragged her albums out so she was around for a longer period of time then eve
You’re always negative about everything thing posted on this site.
Lol! What you mean? Lol how?
I am so sick of these hating hies.Iggy slay she is amazing.Albums and singles she is the head of rap.Like it or not Jill Scott hasnt been relevant since she took a walk and Eve hasn’t had a hit since she lost her Tambourine
Smh, Idk. Jill Scott is very relevant I’d say, for her crowd and which she does generate a different one. As for Eve, she’s just so underrated now. Smh. It’s sad the industry’s this way now.
Eve is chillin she’d out rap Iggy in her sleep … And All of Jills albums are certified by the RIAA they have sold millions be there done that…
I would have walked out of the interview if they would have asked me about a no talent hack like Iggy
And your no better than iggy im sure
She doesnt bother me. Im from cali and when i was younger i visited my fam in memphis for a month i came back to cali with a slight southern accent. People have to remember the girl came to the states at 16 and she was In the south
but why doesn’t she speak like she grew up in the projects during her interviews?
I like Iggy, She just comes off as a phony, which is probably unintentional, but none the less, I dont get a “real” vibe from her at OIL!
–
The only time I enjoyed a glimpse at who she really is, is when she got in a fight with that guy in the supermarket parking lot, when she tried to hit him with the buggy and going off in her real accent. LOL,
LOL at these bit©hes getting their names in that top conmentor chart. It’s not even full. @I STAN(D) FOR TALEN! S/he doesn’t have an avatar!!!
What are you crying about???
Iggy brings hot sounds and raps well..and not because she is white to say we love her the woman herself is on fire..
People love the hole package and iggy is, look at that ass poeple it will attract and capture you
