Have you ever seen or heard something so controversial you kinda didn’t know whether to laugh, clap, or get mad? Well, if you haven’t, we’re sure Chris Rock‘s opening monologue at the 88th Academy Awards will do the trick for you.
The 10 minute set, which saw the sharp-tongued comedian slice into topics of racism, #OscarsSoWhite, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and so much more, conquered every elephant (excuse the pun) in the room.
Sure to be the hottest topic circulating morning news tomorrow, get into Rock’s blistering opening comments below (#ICYMI):
BULLSH*T….minority is not only Blacks…but Arabs, Asians and Hispanics too. 🙁
They don’t matter. African Americans are the only minority that ever matter.
Arabs Asians and Hispanics werent taken from there homeland to be tortured and victimized to build up a country for no pay. Then when “Freed” never got reparated for their contributions but instead went through decades upon decades of limitations and hardships as members of a societ, ultimately never being able to rise as a race of people but still to this day second class citzens still having to work for corporations and companies built up off progress and hardships of their ancestors but still owned by whites. ✋✋✋ BYE FELICIA.
I love him but I disagree. Yeah right, because 13% of the population deserves to be nominated for every award.
Such a hopeless award. ????
What Massa gave him the whip to read this script at the Oscar’s ????
Who cares about Jada Pinkett ??? She just wants her husband to win it. That’s all…
I LAUGHED… he’s a comedian… this has been a part oapart of his actct since he began hosting the VMAS. He should host every award show. What black person actually cares about offending white ppl? Being black means being offensive otherwise what’s the point?
I giggled alot too and it was MEANT to be uncomfortable as-well. My favorite part of his opening act was comparing Hollywood’s racism towards “Elite/rich black people” is like a fraternity (Yes your’e a frat brother but your’e still not a Kappa… It’s like yes your’e educated, wealthy or even wealthier than me, successful, talented but… You’re still black so you will never be good enough!
So White people are just supposed to be okay with always being insulted because they’re White? What kind of privilege…
Yes!!! And y’all will just have to deal!!! I hope when Latinos take over Murica in 2055 all white bastards like you are locked away in cages LMFAOOOO!!!
Sighs. I’m black and I’m tired of this stupid controversy already
Cause you a happy house nicca.. b**** its alright to want change. You deserve it dumb dumb
I’ll pray for you
This mf said he gone pray for me because mfs speaking up about inequality.. but if you do pray for me please dont pray to that God that your ancestors s**** master beat for them to conform to. You need to learn your history young and quit conforming to theirs. Black people come from greatness. We didnt start off uncivilized and no are demanding white people to be equal in “THEIR” country. Iys way more to it. So in the end ill pray for you and your self esteem youngin. Black King.
Nah, f*** that!
We r done settling for the crumbs that fall off of “masta’s” table.
This is a new day!
The best opening monologue in a long long time
Nice
NICE!! Mad Max has won 6 Oscar’s tonight so far YAY!!!!
Film of the year. So glad Revenant didn´t win.
I love Chris Rock so much. I’ve seen all his stand-up comedy specials multiple times. Unfortunately I didn’t laugh once during this opening monologue. I thought he would have done something more unique than the expected. Boring!
YAY SAM SMITH WON!!!!!
The opening monologue was fine. It even had a few funny moments; however, the rest of the show he’s been pushing the same damn point over and over and over. Like, we got it during your monologue Chris. Can you try to be funny instead reminding us that Black people weren’t nominated nonstop?
Black people weren’t nominated.
Why does pointing that FACT out make you uncomfortable?
Is it because it looks exactly how it sounds, racist!???
Look blame the industry or film makers for the lack of black people playing good roles, but not the Academy. There was literally no role played by a black actor that was better than any of the nominees this year. As simple as that. In fact, this years oscar nominations were some of the best in recent memory, even including some very deserving blockbusters which rarely make it to the final race.
I agree. Chris also made that point during his monologue, it’s not really about boycotting but moreso the need for more opportunities for good black actors, like Jamie Foxx.
I laughed the whole time Great job by Chris
