John Legend & WGN America’s breakout hit, ‘Underground,’ brought its highly anticipated second season to the airwaves on March 8th and if ratings are anything to go by, viewers couldn’t wait to catch up with Rosalee, Noah, and the rest of the cast.
Toplined by Aldis Hodge and Jurnee Smollett-Bell, the captivating series – which focuses on a group of slaves in the pre-Civil War South who decide to make the perilous journey North – broke ratings records for its parent network during its first run and is looking to do the same with its successor.
Curious to see just how many people tuned in for the season 2 kick off? Find out inside:
Viewers: 1.1 million
A solid premiere for the action-packed series, the 1.1 million drawn does fall short of the show’s season 1 premiere which snagged 1.42 million viewers. Yet, with its impressive draw, ‘Underground’ came in 3rd among Wednesday cable’s total ratings for its timeslot. Congratz!
Third where? No shade. I missed but will watch!
These ratings are disappointing considering this is one of the most important and consequential shows on TV right now, and it is certainly the best among the shows on the list above. For anyone who hasn’t seen the show, imagine the a historically significant show with the drama, pacing, and twists of Empire. FYI, Season 1 is on Netflix.
