Earlier this month, Ashanti made headlines when she slammed a fan for throwing money on her like a stripper at a live show.
Now, she’s opening up on why.
The moment came during a heated exchange with Joe Budden on the Everyday Struggle show, where she was to promote new single ‘Say Less.’
See what we mean below…
Clearly trying to rile the R&B veteran, Budden asserted that her scantily clad outfit may have invited the attention. But ‘Shanti was having none of it:
Kudos for holding her own.
The interview skews less controversial and more informative. Indeed, she opens up about rejecting 7 major label offers in favor of going it alone, her upcoming new material, and much more.
Check it out…
Bish plz – you was doing stripper thangs…
very pretty girl.
always has been.
Joe was wrong for that.
He said Rain On Me was about stripping lol
She looks amazing!
Joe is such an a-hole
Ashanti’s best defense would’ve been to call out how men – breezy, usher, tank – do strip teases on stage all the time and never get called on it
Why is it diff for her?
I love her team Ashanti
That doctor analogy got him hushed lol.
Go Ashanti ?
Joe buddens has always Ben a d***** I’m glad she shut him down diplomatically…. And for him to say Rain On Me was bout strippers means he never listen to the song. No wonder his hip-hop peers don’t really use his whack ass lol
misogyny all in this interview. one of the reason why it is so difficult for
She might as well be a stripper cuz she ain’t got much else going on besides talking about rejecting 7 deals. (Shes literally been talking about this since before her last album) at THIS point I’m sure she wonybe getting anymore offers either
I agree with you!!
? Oh please. Ashanti will write circles around all of your faves. As she stated she’s perfecting her craft and shes doing it on her OWN. She doesnt have a big machine behind her, therefore its going to take a little longer. She’s booked & busy without a deal ? thats real boss ish!
So imagine if she had one. & her last album did well for an indpendent R&B release & shes worth well over 40 mill..
You should google her. Lol
What an asshole. Go Ashanti
Women are liars she parades around dressed like a stripper and getting mad when someone disrespects her… Joe is absolutely right
I’m sorry I don’t believe she turned down 7 deals, unless they would have been the equivalent of modern slavery
Oops ?, I wonder why a lot of these artists don’t sign wherever the stars who keep getting all these accolades and performance placements!!!
She was dressed like a stripper and acting like a stripper do they treated her like one!
ashanti is right to be pissed and joe sounds stupid as hell.
joe shut up real quick when ashanti told him the doctor analogy.
She an entertainer, Madonna / Janet have all done that as part of there shows. But love your she articulated her argument to the T. Point well made Ashanti. In this new Trump era you can say some perty much anything and it means nothing or the opposite even tho the facts and science point to what is supposto mean or be.
Joe Budden is an asshole. He always coming at females but then all them heauxs he’s been with are non talented, attention craving whores. He has no credibility and should be grateful someone is giving a job because obviously his music doesn’t sell or able to support him. Wack ass piece of s***. I would of been like so your girl is a stripper too since she’s always posting half naked pics on IG, check yourself Joe.
Joe Budden is a b*** hole for sure, Ashanti is legendary she left an indelible mark on the music industry and congratulations to SZA..
Well, what was “respectful” about Ashanti gyrating around blindfolded, bound men? Indeed, what was respectful about her putting “f*cking” in front of “stripper” — would she have been LESS offended if she’s been mistaken for a dominatrix since they get paid in advance? If Beyonce and Jennifer can sing in “body suits” without getting money thrown at them, maybe it’s because they KNOW or that their success has had as much with selling their s** appeal along with their songs.
Ashanti was trying to sell a song by being a kinky fantasy figure; the money-throwing complimented fantasy. She would have done a better job of making her point by laughing at the idea of a”serious” singer like her being mistaken for a stripper: “Bad news, folks, I’m not getting naked,” or “Y’all don’t have be throwing me money — if you paid to get in here, you’ve paid me!”
